Beginner (A1)

Palm Heel Strike

Hammerfist to the Side

Elbows 1-3

Drill: Monkey in the Middle; Groups of 3; 2 Padholders and 1 Striker. Striker begins on 1 pad with nonstop, aggressive Palm Heel Strikes. Padholder 2 can verbal cue or tap Striker from the side or behind. Depending on location and range, Striker must throw a hammerfist to the side or Elbow #2 or Elbow #3, then turn and face 2nd Padholder, throwing follow-up palm strikes until they get another tap or verbal cue from Padholder 1.

Wrist releases

360 Defenses

Drill: A/B Drill with Non-compliant attacker. Divide class into A's and B's. A's are stationed throughout room with eyes closed. B's are roaming attackers and can apply any of the following: 1) grab the wrist and back off after wrist release, 2) push or verbal cue and make 360 attack, or 3) grab the wrist aggressively and pull, then when wrist release is performed, make 360 attack.

Intermediate (A1)

Hook Punch

Uppercut Punch

Drill: Combinations 8 (rear uppercut/lead hook/cross), 9 (lead uppercut/cross/lead hook), and 10 (cross/lead uppercut/cross)

Drill: Reload! Double up on the last strike, i.e. 8 = rear uppercut/lead hook/cross/cross, 9 = 9 lead uppercut/cross/lead hook/lead hook), 10 = cross/uppercut/cross/cross

Drill: Get off line! After the combination, Striker step/pivots or bursts to the side of their last combative and throws another cross, i.e. Striker throws an 8, then bursts right and throws a cross. The goal is to be looking at the side of the bad guy's head when they move offline.

Bearhug from the Front, Arms Free

Ground – Kick off from Guard

Drill: Partners; both wearing gloves. Attacker holds gloves like focus mitts and calls for combinations from earlier. On instructor's call of "CLINCH!" Attacker attacks Defender/Striker with Bearhug from the Front, Arms Free. Have attackers make bearhug dynamic with forward pressure, forcing Defender to get their footing and stabilize before launching knees. Once Bearhug defense is made, students return to combinations. Switch roles before moving on to Final Drill.

Final Drill: Now instructor also calls "DOWN!" Defender/Striker lies on their back and Attacker gets in their guard and postures up. Defender makes Ground – Kick off from Guard, performs Tactical Get-up, and students reset the drill with combinations. Discuss having attacker in guard as the result of a sloppy takedown, and the potential for losing footing on Bearhug.

Advanced (A1)

Scissor Round Kick

Thai Pads

Round 1: Basic combinations with round kick

Round 2: Basic combinations, replacing the round kick with Scissor Round Kick

Round 3: Basic combinations in opposite stance

Gun to the Side of the Head

Drill: Groups of 3; 1 Padholder; 1 Attacker; 1 Striker/Defender. Padholder holds for either 6 hand combatives to pad or Scissor Round Kick. Attacker can make Gun to the Side of the Head at any time. Defender must make defense then immediately return to pad.
