CERTIFICATION PROCESS
- Physical test – the first two to three hours assess conditioning and technique. Candidates must arrive prepared to perform the material for their certification level.

- Bronze Certificate – satisfactory performance
- Silver Certificate – above-average performance (top 10%)
- Gold Certificate – exceptional performance (top 1%)

certification FAQs
Know what to expect, how to prepare, and what comes next in your development as an instructor.
Who can attend a KMA instructor certification course?
Any practitioner who is sufficiently trained in Krav Maga technique can attend. Candidates should have trained under a qualified instructor long enough to understand and properly perform the techniques for their certification level. KMA certification courses focus primarily on teaching methodology, so candidates must arrive with an established technical foundation.
I’m already certified through another organization. Where do I start?
KMA recognizes instructor certifications from several other organizations. In many cases, we ask for a few videos to assess your proficiency. Contact Krav Maga Alliance to discuss your existing credentials and the appropriate next step.
How should I prepare for instructor certification?
Prepare for three physically demanding days of drilling and teaching. Instructor candidates must perform beyond the standards expected of students and be ready to absorb and apply the teaching material. Train under a qualified instructor on both technique and teaching methodology before attending. For specific questions about preparation, contact KMA.
How long is the course, and what happens during it?
A typical certification course runs for three eight-hour days. The first two to three hours are a physical test, followed by technical instruction, mock teaching, and lectures. The course concludes with an overall evaluation of your technical and teaching skills.
What am I qualified to teach after passing?
After passing a certification level, you are certified to teach the techniques at that level and all levels below it. Instructors are not certified to teach techniques above their instructor certification level.
How are instructor candidates graded?
Bronze recognizes satisfactory performance. Silver recognizes above-average performance in the top 10%. Gold recognizes exceptional performance in the top 1%. KMA believes in recognizing above-average performance and encourages every candidate to work toward the highest grade they can achieve.
What happens if I don’t pass?
Your affiliate owner will be notified first. They will receive an explanation of why you did not pass and the next steps you need to take to meet the certification standard.
How do I maintain my instructor certification?
Instructors must continue teaching, stay engaged with updates through KMA Connect, and attend training events as much as possible to maintain their certification.
How do I find and register for a certification course?
Visit the KMA Events page to find a certification appropriate for your level. Obtain permission from the affiliation holder at your gym before registering. If a suitable course is not available, contact KMA administration to request a certification in your area.
