Drill: pile of pads in the middle of the room; students must crawl to get a pad; if they don't get a pad, they are striking non-stop until the drill resets (make it tiring!). Note: we say "crawl" for safety; if you allow them to stay on their feet and sprint, the drill can become dangerous.
Gun from the Front -- drills with the attacker falling back from the punch or struggling for gun
Gun from the Front -- machine gun takedown
BEGINNER CLASS
Shadow Box with Left/Right/Right Elbow
Left/Right/Right Elbow to Pad
Drill: light striking on the pad with straight punches; on the pad holder's command ("go!") burst in with Left/Right/Right Elbow aggressively, then move back out and continue with light strikes.
Elbow #2 to pad (be aware that the student might not feel much power)
Knees
Combination: Elbow #2 transition to knees (discuss the need to switch your feet)
Choke from the Front
Drill: eyes closed, either pushed with Choke from the Front or hit with pad and make Left/Right/Right Elbow combination
INTERMEDIATE CLASS
Thai Pads (tombstone pad is OK): any single strike for the first round; double up that strike for the second round; triple the strike for the third round.
Round Kicks -- emphasize high round kick
Front Kick Vert. Target -- emphasize high front kick
Def. v. High Round Kick (reflexive)
Def. v. High Round Kick (2 and 3 points of contact)

Drill: vision drill, recognize high front or round kick

Basic Takedown Defense
Drill: partner holds pad and moves; on command, striker punches or makes Basic Takedown Defense as partner advances.
Front Kick (groin)- emphasis on kicking from a neutral stance
Drill: the striker stands in a passive stance; pad holder walks in a semi circle in front of them; when they put the pad down, the striker kicks; some of the positions should be slightly off center, so the striker kicks at various angles.
Choke From The Front (2 hands)
INTERMEDIATE CLASS
2 rounds of basic focus mitt work (include uppercuts)
360 Defense with Counterattack
Drill: make 369 with counterattacks and follow up; make different counterattacks each time!
Defense v. Uppercut
Drill: defend uppercuts and 360; when an uppercut comes, defend only; when 360 comes, defend and counterattack.

Hammerfist into straight punch combinations
Chops
Spinning Heel Kick
Drill: with focus mitts, make basic punch combinations, then partner calls for spinning heel kick
Gun to the Side, in Front of Arm
Drill: threat from the side; if there is a gun, make the gun defense; if no gun, attack with chops or Hammerfist followed by additional counters.
BEGINNER CLASS
Palm Strikes
360
Drill: groups of 3, palm strikes to target, third person gives verbal signal and bursts forward with 360; defender must defend, then return to the pad (note: it is simplest if the attacker uses his outside arm only, i.e., if he is on the defender's left side, he should use his right arm only to attack; this is not mandatory, but it makes things clearer to the defender)
Knees (this should be review)
Headlock Behind (note! we are experimenting with moving Headlock from Behind to Level 1)
Drill: Non Compliant Attacker -- the attacker makes Headlock, and the defender defends. Once the defender begins to give knees, the attacker breaks off and comes back with a 360 attack. Defender must defend, then continue with combatives. Be sure to regulate speed and intensity.
INTERMEDIATE CLASS
Focus Mitts: Left/Right Combo
Drill: Focus Mitts with Disturbing -- pad holder strikes partner continuously while partner covers and absorbs; when pad holder slaps mitts together, the partner makes left/right combination, then the pad holder goes back to striking. This drill should be very fast and aggressive.

Drill: Defend left or right punch (slow), then faster
ADVANCED CLASS
Thai Pads - basic combinations
Drill: groups of 3, two with thai pads; striker must make combinations while moving to keep second pad holder "lined up" so the striker deals with only one at a time; now and then, the second pad holder jumps in and becomes the first pad holder; BLACK BELTS do this from an opposite fighting stance.

Drill: "Bump Drill" -- partner in fighting stance; shoot in, at slight angle, as though for a double leg takedown, but just "bump" your partner so you feel the impact; be sure your hips are close, as though for a proper takedown. Be sure to do both sides.
Thai Pads: right uppercut/left hook/right cross/left round kick

Pad holder call combinations, sometimes shoot in to "bump"; test striker's speed in recoiling kicking leg

Inside Defenses - build with left punches only, then right punches only, the mixed. Switch partners several times.
INTERMEDIATE CLASS
Focus Mitts: Hooks and Uppercuts
Drill: groups of 3; make the appropriate hook or uppercut while third person holds up a hand; striker must call out the hand motion.
Basic Takedown Defense - spin on the centerline
Ground: Trap and Roll
Ground: Arm Bar from Guard (assume we cannot kick off)

Drill: partner calls out even numbers (mostly 2, 4, 6) and striker makes that many punches, leading with forward hand. At least twice during the round, the partner calls out a number higher than 10. Make sure strikers engage their hips and legs to create power.
