Drill: Take It Outside! Find a decent running area. The defender starts out punching. Instructor yells "Sprint!" and both people run. The instructor yells "Punch!" and both must stop so that the defender can punch. Have them stop 3-4 times in a 70 yard run.

Drill: knife recognition at close range -- partner stands close, 50% speed, recognize downward or upward attack at close range and make the defense and counter. After some training, include the whole defense. Then pick up the speed. FOR SAFETY -- NO STABS AT THE FACE!

Barricade Drill: defender starts on the ground with eyes closed; foot is grabbed, and he must make the appropriate defense and get up; then he must go through a barricade of people with pads; after he gets through, he should make a hook combination to focus mitts.

DRILL: STRIKING TRANSITION – non stop striking drill; the attacker starts in a standing position, striking pad; then he drops to his knees, then to his back, then again back to his knees, then standing…but never stops striking! Alternate with partner, three rounds each

Front Kick Vertical Target
Drill: circle of pad holders surrounds defender just outside kicking range; defender can attack any pad holder, but must move around and use Front Kick Vertical Target (make a rule that he cannot attack a pad holder right next to the one he just struck); on instructor command, the pad holders begin to close in slowly. Defender must move from kicks to punches to elbows and knees as he gets crowded in.
