tombstone pad rounds - round 1, 1 of everything (either L/R combo, front kick to groin, or roundkick)

Defense against uppercut

bearhug from behind (leverage on finger)

hair grab from behind

drill:  defend either attack from behind, throw in regular bearhug from behind (arms free, caught) if students already know it.

 

Advanced:

one arm shoulder throw

overhead stick - left handed attacker

Beginner:

Punch warm up, pad holder moves around and calls for L, R or L/R  instructor calls for sprawl, or tuck jumps.

Round kicks --> horseshoe drill

Ground - round kick

Drill - defender moves around and makes punches or kicks, yells down, defender gets to ground (any way they can), and gets into their ground fighting stance.  Attacker moves around them (trying to get by the head) and holds for kick.  Defender makes either front kick or round kick, then gets up and resets.

 

Intermediate:

Hook punch defense

uppercut defense

attacker moves around and throws either hook or uppercut, defender defends.  Start with just hook, then layer in uppercuts,        then layer straight punches.

Bear hug from behind - arms caught

- arms free

Drill: groups of 3 - 1 person makes punches at defender, at anytime 2nd attacker comes from behind and bearhugs the 1st attacker, they defend then reset.

 

Advanced:

Thai pad rounds in opposite stance  - last 30 sec of each round non-stop punches

spinning heel kick

sliding def v. spinning heel kick

stopping def v. spinning heel kick

sparring including spinning heel kick

Drill:  Dark alley drill - Have everyone in class close their eyes, tap random people on the shoulder.  They become attackers (choke from the front).  Everyone opens their eyes and starts to walk around the room,  attackers make an attack,  then reset and pick new attackers.

 

Intermediate:

Hook punch --> work low and high hook punches (body and head)

defense vs. front kick (redirect)

(shin block)

Drill: attacker holds focus mitts, calls for 1-4 combos.  At any point they can also make a front kick to the groin. After every front kick defense, defender follows up with a hook punch.

Defense v. Low Round Kick (shin block)

Drill: Inside Defend Straight Punch or Low Round Kick

 

ADVANCED CLASS (A3)

Slow Fighting - no gloves, light strikes with open hands, light contact

Stick Overhead - defense v. off angle (dead side)

Practice this also against an attacker making a downward swing with two hands or an attacker swinging downward with the right hand, but from the left side of the attacker's body

Drill: groups of 4; defender fights with one attacker using open hands; second attacker picks up stick to attack; fourth person calls out warning, and the defender must break off and defend the stick.
