Drill: partner calls out even number of punches; striker makes that many punches, starting with jab; during the drill, most numbers will be 2-4-6, but the pad holder should call out a number higher than 10 at least twice.

Front Kick (groin) - include counter variations
Drill: slow motion; attacker chokes; the defender defends and makes counterattacks slowly; the attacker covers up so that the defender must constantly find new openings.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A3)
Front Kick with Advance
Drill: pad holder moves around and offers a target for straight punches or front kick with advance
Defense v. Low Round (absorbing)
Drill: attacker holds focus mitts and gives basic combinations; sometimes, the attacker makes a low round kick, and the defender must absorb. MORE ADVANCED -- the defender must absorb and give a simultaneous right cross

Drill: defend 360 attacks, make the One Arm Shoulder Throw whenever possible

Shadowboxing - give instructions for very new students

Drill: eyes closed, partner either stands in front to hold for right straight punch OR stands behind to hold for Elbow #3. Partner gives a light push; defender opens eyes and makes the appropriate strike

Shadowboxing Opposite Stance
Open hand sparring, hands only, opposite stance
Stick - overhead defense
Drill: groups of three; the person in the middle does open-hand sparring with one opponent; at any time, the second attacker gives a verbal warning and attacks with the stick; the defender must defend the stick and then go back to fighting.
VARIATION: to add stress, after the defender makes the stick defense, the first attacker can charge forward; the defender must decide if he has time to make the stick disarm and use it, or abandon and go back to fighting.

Drill: distance continuum -- eyes closed; attacker starts at different distances and gives a verbal signal; defender opens eyes and must recognize distance to make Front Kick, Straight Punches, or make Basic Takedown Defense and knees
Drill: repeat the above drill, but after each reaction, the defender sprints across the room, comes back, and attacks the pad with Front Kick Vertical Target, Punches, and Knees, in that order.

Drill: start on ground; give round kick, then get up; make inside defenses until the instructor restarts the drill on the ground

Focus Mitts: Combo #7: Right Uppercut/Left Hook/Right Straight
Focus Mitt Drill: pad holder gives 4 hooks with the pads (low right hook, low left hook, high right hook, high left hook); defender blocks, then steps left and pivots, then makes Combination #7.
Ground: Escape from Guard -- posture up and strike groin
Ground: Side control and strikes
Drill: Side control and strikes; on instructor command, jump up, sprint, then come back and continue with side control
Ground: arm lock from side control

ADVANCED CLASS (A2)
Focus Mitts: Combo #7: Right Uppercut/Left Hook/Right Straight

Drill: palm heel strikes to pads, attacker comes from either side with 360; make defense and add knees, then go back to striking the pad. NOTE! To keep the drill simple, have the 360 attackers use only their outside hand when attacking.
Choke Front (1 hand) - use the opposite side you are accustomed to.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A2)
Focus Mitts: Left/Right combo
Drill: Focus mitt holder hits the striker, striker covers; on the pad holder's signal, the striker makes left/right combination, then covers again.
Focus Mitt Combo: Left/Right/Liver Shot - focus on stepping in at an angle for body shot
Bearhugs -- all bearhugs from behind
Drill: groups of 3; one person has a large kicking shield; the striker makes continous strikes, HOWEVER, on the instructor's command, he must go "In!" for close range strikes and "Out!" for long range weapons. AT ANY TIME the third person can make Bearhug from Behind.

ADVANCED CLASS (A2)
Focus Mitts: Right Cross/Slip Left/Right Cross
Knees - forward knee with a switch
Knees - rear knee with a small step of the forward foot
Long Gun Live Side (use the knees mentioned above)

Drill: pad holder moves around, then stops and gives command "Left!" or "Right!"; defender gives front kick/round kick combo with that leg

NOTE: if you have done both these in recent classes, make it a review, then do the following Drill:
Drill: defender's eyes closed; attacker makes a choke with a push front or back; the defender feels the attack and just makes the defense (no counters yet). This is a drill to practice reaction and awareness. After this drill, add counterattacks.

INTERMEDIATE (A2)
Hook Punch -- vary the distance; practice short range, medium range, and long range hooks with both hands
Drill: First Strike - practice taking a modified fighting stance against a threatening person; if you can get the pad holder to be verbal and take on the role of a bully, that is even better; the defender should warn the attacker not to come closer; when the attacker steps closer (within arm's reach) the defender makes a solid right hook.
Ground - side control
Ground - arm lock from side control
Ground - disengage from side control (knee to belly)

ADVANCED (A2)
Thai Pads with Sprawls - 4 rounds of 2 minutes
Knife - Straight Stab
Knife - Straight Stab Live Side

BEGINNER CLASS (A2)
At end of Warm Up: partner drill with sit ups; pad holder anchors the partner's feet and holds a pad low; the person doing the drill sits up and punches. First sit up: 2 punches; Second sit up, 4 punches; Third sit up, 6 punches; Fourth sit up, 8 punches; Fifth sit up, 10 punches; Sixth sit up 10 punches; Seventh sit up, 8 punches...and back down.
360 Defense
Advanced -- 360 Defense with Simultaneous Counter
Advanced - Knife Defense v. Downward Stab (just like 360 above); defend and counter ONLY, then make distance
Drill: groups of 3; partner holds pad; defender makes punches; third person gives a verbal signal and makes a downward stab; defender must defense; the knife attacker should give enough warning so that the defender can turn.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A2)

Drill: Punches going forward OR backwards on partner's command; assign 2 or 3 random attackers to walk around and make Headlock from Behind

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A2)
Combo: Left/Right/Left Knee (use thai pads if the group is able)
Bearhug Front -- work angles so it is almost a bearhug from the side
Bearhug Front -- only one arm caught; space and base, use the free arm to strike or to make leverage against the neck
Reverse Headlock Standing - practice both sides

ADVANCED CLASS (A2)
Thai Pads - combinations 1-4 with knees instead of round kicks
Outside Slap Kick

Clinch Drill: control and try to sweep opponent
