INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C1) 

Focus Mitts: Opposite Stance- Hooks and uppercuts

Drill: groups of 3; make the appropriate hook or uppercut while third person holds up a hand; striker must call out the hand motion.

Ground- Headlock from side Forward

Ground- Headlock from side Backward

Drill: defend either headlock from ground, get up and attack the pad with non-stop strikes until pad holder calls time. Reset!

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C1)

Focus Mitts-Opposite Stance- 3 Rounds of 2 minutes- non-stop combinations (Zero Down Time bet. Combos), 30 seconds rest bet. Rounds.

Knife on the Ground – full mount, downward stab

Gun on the Ground – full mount, trap and roll

Drill: eyes closed, open on command, react to gun or knife

 

Beginner Class (A1)

Movement- Shadow Boxing

Palm Heel Strike

Palm Heel Strike from Mount

Drill: Groups of 2, one Large shield and a small shield; striker; palm heel strikes from mount on instructor’s signal “UP” stand up and continue with palm heel strikes from standing on pad; on instructor’s signal “DOWN”, mount pad and continue with strikes.

Drill: Non-stop knees, defend choke from behind

Drill: Thai Pads/ 3 rounds of 2 minutes

Round 1: Work these combinations in the following order: Jab/Round Kick, Jab/Cross/Switch Round Kick, Jab/Cross/Hook/Round Kick, Jab/Cross/Hook/Cross/Switch Round Kick.

 

Round 2: Jab/2 Round Kicks, Jab/Cross/ 2 Switch Round Kick, Jab/Cross/Hook/2 Round Kick, Jab/Cross/Hook/Cross/ 2 Switch Round Kick ** Include sprawls**

 

Round 3: Jab/3 Round Kicks, Jab/Cross/ 3 Switch Round Kick, Jab/Cross/Hook/3 Round Kick, Jab/Cross/Hook/Cross/ 3 Switch Round Kick **Include Sprawls & 3 Push ups**

Tai Pads: 4 Rounds of 2 Min.

Round 2- Ground- Grappling/Rolling (submissions only, NO strikes)

Round 3- Combinations, include kicks, elbows, knees and Sprawls

Round 4- Ground- Grappling/Rolling (submissions only, NO strikes)

Knife- defense v. straight stab

BEGINNER (C1)
W/U DRILL: Follow the Leader
Groups of 2, standing between borders of small area (between cones, a couple mats, etc.) One designated Leader, other Follower. Leader can shuffle/move between the cones, sprawl, roll, etc. Follower keeps up. Switch for several rounds.

Elbows 1-3
DRILL: Cue & Do
Groups of 2. Padholder, Striker. Striker neutral, eyes closed. Padholder cues for one of 3 elbows. Striker opens, sends and turns toward pad.

Rear Choke
*Spend extra time to emphasize practice to both sides.

FINAL DRILL:
Groups of 2. Defender, Attacker. Striker neutral, eyes closed. Attacker can cue with Rear Choke or cue for Elbow + Straight Burst. Can include additional combatives based on Defender’s experience.

INTERMEDIATE (C1)
W/U DRILL: Cue & Do
Groups 2. Padholder, Striker. Padholder cues for FGK or either side RHK. Start with 1 strike per cue, build to 2...3

Defense v Front Kick (Shin Block)
Defense v Front Kick (Absorb, IF TIME)

Headbutt Forward

COMBO: (Gloves on)
RHK Shin Block + L/R Straight (to partner’s gloves) + Headbutt (to gloves)
*Alternate attacker/striker after each combo.

FINAL DRILL: Trigger Sparring
10-20s Rounds. Each round begins with one person sending RHK, other defending, then free sparring. Alternate beginning attacker each round.

ADVANCED (C1)
W/U DRILL: Cue & Do
Groups 2. Padholder, Striker. Padholder with focus mitts, holds up either mitt. Striker sees and sends 1 HARD straight punch. Start in fighting stands, eventually hands up/neutral stance, finally neutral stance.

Gun Front w/ Same Side Shoulder Grab (Same as Gun Front)
Gun Front w/ Cross Side Shoulder Grab (Machine Gun Takedown)

FINAL DRILL: Roaming Attacker
Groups 2. Defender, Attacker. Attacker can cue for any above gun attack. Second round, can mix in any attack.

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)

Drill: straight punches and sprawls on command; 3 rounds of 30 seconds each, alternating with partner

Front Kick Vertical Target

Drill: Front Kick Vertical Target/Right Knee

Choke from the Front

Drill: eyes closed, practice ranges -- attacker holds pad for straight punch OR Front Kick Vertical Target OR makes a choke

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C1)

Focus Mitts: Combo #3/duck right hook/left hook/right cross

Choke from the Front (1 hand) review

Headlock from the Side - practice opposite side

Drill: either side headlock, OR choke from the front

Ground - Choke from the Side

Focus mitts: Opposite stance, two rounds of two minutes

Drill: groups of three; both confront defender, one person attacks, either with gun or knife

Drill: Any Level 1-3 self defense, when possible defender makes a one arm shoulder throw
Knife- defense v. downward stab
Knife- defense v. upward stab
Knife- straight stab
Drill: Groups of 3; non-strikes on pad; attacker gives a verbal signal and makes either Knife attack

BEGINNER (C1)
W/U DRILL: Bull in Ring : Punches
Striker stands in the middle of 2-4 padholders. Padholders cue for striker to send all out strikes to their pad, turning if necessary.
Basic Takedown Defense (Changing height, moving feet)
DRILL:
Grps 2: Def, Atk. Def eyes closed. Atk cues from various distances before attempting takedown.

Knees w/ Clinch
DRILL:
Same as above, but after defending takedown, Def sends knees.

Wrist Release Defenses

FINAL DRILL:
Def neutral, eyes closed. Atk can cue with wrist grab or shoot in for takedown.

INTERMEDIATE (C1)

DRILL:
Def eyes closed. Atk cues from various distance. Defend if possible, or get taken down.

Bearhug Front - Arms Free (Leverage on Neck)
Ground - Guard Defense (Leverage on Neck)
*Same “hug and peel” as bearhug, peel head to ground and roll into mount.

FINAL DRILL:
Def eyes closed. Atk can cue with bearhug or cue for takedown. If taken down, defender can use Guard Defense to gain dominant position.

ADVANCED (C1)
W/U DRILL:
Striker places padholder in Muay Thai clinch and sends light/fast alternating knees. On instructor’s “HIT!” striker sends next knee full power, returns to light/fast strikes. Repeat for several rounds. End with GO! GO! GO! for all out knees.

360 Defense w/ Counter (Focus on Lower attacks)
Knife Defense v. Upward Stab
Knife Defense v. Upward Stab (Shank Defense)
*Attacker grabs shirt with opposite hand and stabs repeatedly. Defender defends stabs, performs elbow pull and moves to dead side.

FINAL DRILL:
Headgear and gloves on. Attacker attacks with shank attack. Defender can actually send counters to head before elbow grab.
NOTE1: Due to gloves, attacker will have to grab shoulder versus shirt.
NOTE2: Defender may not get as good a grip on elbow, but should still work.

Beginner Class (A1)

Drill: 2 Rounds of :90 seconds

Drill: Defender; eyes closed, attacker; gives a verbal signal and attacks with a Front kick or holds a pad at a distance for Front Kick with Advance.

Bearhug Front Arms Caught

Bearhug Front Arms Free (space)

Drill: 2- 1 minute rounds; Round 1- One defender- non-stop bearhug attacks

Round 2- One defender- attacker; aggressive attacks, any level 1 technique plus bearhugs

 

ADVANCED (C1)

10 Front Kick Vertical Target (5 each side)

15 Burpees

20 Straight Punches

25 Burpees

30 Knee Strikes (15 each side)

35 Burpees

Gun from the Front, Kneeling Position

Gun from the side or behind , assailant using off hand

Drill: punching or kicking, gunman makes gun threats from the side or behind or from distance orders defender to kneel, then approaches; defender; makes the appropriate defense.

Combo: Right Elbow/Right Knee/step and pivot to the right

Drill: pad holder presses forward with pad; defender instinctively keeps pad holder away with arms (this is instinctive, not a technique), then transitions to Right Elbow/Right Knee, then moves to the right

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C1)

Thai Pads: Combinations 1-4 with round kick

Defense v. Front Kick to the Groin (redirect)

Sparring Drill: one attack/one defend v. straight punches, 360 attacks, and groin kicks

Thai Pads: Right/Left Round Kick/Right/Left Hook

Advancing Front Kick (review)

Gun from the Front (2 handed technique)

Gun from a Kneeling Position

Drill: attacker pushes defender back and says to kneel down; defender must decide if he can make the defense now, or if he must comply and wait to defend from a kneeling position
