Drill: Diving for the pads. Partners line up across (equidistant) from each other with a curved kick shield between them. On instructor’s call of “GO!” Person who touches pad first holds pad. Loser does nonstop strikes to pad until Instructor calls “TIME!” Change the strikes, distance from pad, and how they get there (bear crawl, crab walk, etc.)
Bearhug Front, Arms Free (space and base)

Drill: Same as previous drill, but person who touches pad first can hold OR attack for Bearhug from the Front.

Drill: 1 striker, 1 attacker, 1-2 pad holders. Striker stands in passive stance with eyes shut. Pad holders get striker’s attention verbally or by jarring them with the pad. Striker opens eyes and delivers either elbow #2 or side hammerfist, following up with 2-5 combatives. Attacker chokes striker from behind at any point during the drill (sometimes in passive stance, sometimes while striking on the pad).

Drill 1: Closing the distance. 1 tombstone pad holder, 1 striker. Striker stands in passive stance, eyes shut. Pad holder gets striker’s attention either verbally or by jarring them with the pad. Striker opens eyes, identifies threat, and strikes their way into using a headbutt (i.e. straight punch, elbow, headbutt)
Drill 2: 3 strikes drill. 1 focus mitt holder, 1 striker. Focus mitt holder places mitt on strikers face and pushes striker’s head (be a bully). Striker works on verbal de-escalation techniques and positioning (situational awareness). After a brief moment, mitt holder pushes striker’s head again (escalating situation). Striker, continues to de-escalate while maintaining situation awareness of room. Mitt holder pushes striker’s head for a third time and presents the mitt for strikes. Striker flips the switch immediately delivers punches, elbows, and headbutts to the pad. Reset and go again. Safety Note: mitt holder, be sure to make contact first, THEN push. Do not inadvertently slap your partner in the head.
ADVANCED CLASS
Review 360 defenses (bottom half of circle, both hands)
Knife – threat, defense to live side
Knife – threat, defense to dead side
Drill: Circle-of-death. 1 defender, everyone else is an attacker. Working at 25%-50% speed, attackers are allowed to bring on any unarmed attack from lower levels (1-3) as well as knife threats. Note: Defenders are training situational awareness. They should be constantly looking for attacker’s wielding weapons and prioritize those defenses accordingly.

Drill: gun techniques hold packages, bags, etc. in hands; ALSO, gunman moving, pointing the gun in different directions so that the defender must wait for an opportunity. Sometimes, gunman makes the defender walk in front of him with the gun touching his back.

Drill: Defender starts eyes closed. Attacker bumps with kick shield for elbows 1-3, followed by knees until "time" is called, or alerts the defender and attacks for 360s.

Defense vs. low round kick (absorbing and shin block)
Thai pad combos - round 1: boxing combos with uppercuts; round 2-3: pad holder can throw low round kicks. Striker defends and returns with 2 straight punches to Thai pads.

ADVANCED CLASS
Review L1-3 attacks from behind (rear headlock, choke, choke with pull, bearhug, etc.)
Review elbow #1 with advance: pad holder stands at points on a circle around striker, says "go," and striker turns and moves towards pad.
Gun from behind (touching)
Drill: gun with non-compliant attacker. Once the defender starts the defense, the attacker can either pull the gun away early, fight the defender once they establish control, or fall to the ground (as if knocked out) once the counter lands. The fight "may" continue on the ground.

Drill 1: Changing range; Curved kick shield holder and Striker; Striker always begins with FKVT, and depending on hold, follows up with Left/Right Combination or Knee
Drill 2: A/B Drill; Groups of 3; 2 pad holders per group. Pad holders stand at opposite end of the mat with Striker between them. On instructor's call of "A!" Striker sprints to pad designated as A and makes non-stop Left/Right Combinations to pad, hard and fast. On instructor's call of "B!" Striker sprints to second pad holder and makes non-stop Knees. Sometimes they barely get a strike in before sprinting, and other times they are striking for longer than they want to.
Choke from the Side

Final Drill: Groups of 3; 1 curved kick shield holder; 1 Attacker; 1 Striker/Defender. Striker is working Drill 1 from earlier in class on curved kick shield. At any time, Attacker can apply Choke from the Side or Choke from Behind.

Combo #8 (Rear uppercut/Lead Hook/Cross--quick review from Tuesday)
Drill: Striker stands in neutral position with eyes closed. Pad holder gives tap or verbal cue and holds for Headbutt to the Side or Headbutt Backward. Striker makes appropriate headbutt and follows up with an elbow and 4 clinch knees.
Drill: Add Combo #8 after 4 clinch knees. Discuss importance of boxing out of clinch to make space.
Forward Roll; Figure 4
Drill: Defender stands in front of pad. Attacker stands behind Defender and gives a shove. Defender makes Forward Roll; Figure 4 over pad. Attacker picks up pad for 6 hand combatives. Switch roles for time.
Forward Roll; Back Fall Break
Drill: Same as above, but pad in center of mat. On Attacker's shove, Defender sprints and makes Forward Roll; Back Fall Break over pad. Defender picks up pad for Front Kick from the Ground.
ADVANCED CLASS

Drill 1: Target recognition for 4 punches, Round Kick with either leg, Axe Kick, or Jumping Front Kick
Drill 2: Same as above in opposite stance

Drill: Palm Heel Strikes; now and then, pad holder bursts forward (after punches) and the defender must make Basic Takedown Defense
360 defenses
Choke Front (2 hands)
Drill: attacker makes Choke Front; defender defends; attacker steps back, then makes a 360 attack; defender must defend 360 and continue with counterattacks.
