Palm Heel Strikes

Round Kick

DRILL:

Grps 2, Striker, Padholder. Striker sends all out Palm Heels. On holder’s “KICK!” cue, striker stops striking, as padholder steps back to hold for either side Round Kick. Then returns to striking. Repeat for time. Switch after each round. Increase Round Kick per cue by 1 each round.

Choke Front - 1 Hand
Defenders neutral, eyes closed. Roaming attacker can cue with Choke or pad push for burst of Palm Heels or Round Kicks depending on pad hold. Attacker cues to “RESET!”

DRILL - WARMUP:

Grps 2, Padholder, Striker. Striker sends a single HARD knee without clinch, attempting to drive partner back. Alternating striking knee each time.

Defensive Front Kick

DRILL:

Grps 2, Padholder, Striker. Striker sends a single HARD knee without clinch then DFK, attempting to drive partner back. Alternating striking knee each time.

Bearhug Rear - Arms Caught

Headlock Reverse Standing

DRILL - FINAL:

Grps 2. Attacker, Defender. Defender neutral eyes closed. Attacker applies Bearhug. During defense, attacker can transition to Headlock Reverse for additional defense.

DRILL - WARMUP:

Grps 2, Padholder, Striker. Striker neutral, eyes closed. Padholder swats with pad to cue, Striker orients, cliches and sends blast of 3-4 Knees before reseting.

DRILL - FINAL:

Defenders at one end of gym, neutral, eyes closed. Attackers run to opposite end of gym, perform 10 jumping jacks, run back down and attack. After defense, switch roles, with Defender runs to opposite end with gun.

BEGINNER (A2)

Advancing Straight Punch

DRILL:

Groups of 2, Striker, Padholder. Begin facing each other within punching range. When Padholder steps back, Striker advances strikes, and sends a Straight burst until Padholder cues to “RESET!”

Inside Defenses

Movement (Pivoting)*

*After practicing, add a forward burst and 90 degree pivot to the Inside Defense.

Headlock Rear

DRILL-FINAL:

Groups of 2, Attacker, Defender. Attacker sends Straight Punches for defense. Select groups to wander and attack the ATTACKER of the other groups with Headlock Rear. Defend and return to Straight Punch attacks.

Groups of 3, Striker, Pad1, Pad2. Same drill as above, however Pad2 can approach for DFK or cue Striker “DOWN!” into Ground Position. Pad2 then dives into Striker’s guard and pins chest to chest. Striker must Kick Off and return to striking.

Focus Mitts: Freework combinations 1-4, mitt holder calls randomly for “kick” holding one mitt out. Striker may do either inside or outside slap kick as they deem appropriate.
Ground – Arm Bar from guard
Drill: A/B drill. Group A attacks, Group B defends. Defenders lay on their backs, eyes closed. Attackers randomly get into defender’s guard and begin throwing light palm heels strikes at defender. Defenders perform armbar, get up, get out, and then return and reset.

Gun from Behind (touching)
Drill: 1 kick shield holder, 1 striker, 1 attacker. Striker free works on kick shield, mixing in mouth of hand punch and 2 front kicks with a switch. Attacker threatens striker with a gun from side (behind the arm) or rear (touching). Striker defends, then returns to the pad.

Drill - attacker approaches from the front or side of a defender in neutral stance and attacks with a wrist grab, pulling the defender along. If the initial wrist release is successful, the defender runs across the room to touch the opposite wall. If not initially successful, the defender delivers strikes to the attacker until they are realeased.

Intermediate (C1)

Ground - kick off from the guard
Drill - determined attacker in the guard. Start with the defender on their back delivering strikes to a tombstone held by an attacker in their guard. On "go" the defender tries to kick off. The attacker's job is to maintain their position in the defender's guard as much as possible, while slapping their shoulders and the side of their head. Once the defender is successful they repeat the same drill with a fresh attacker. Repeat several times

Gun from the front, 2-handed technique (cupping)
Drill - the attacker has 3 options once they detect movement from the defender: pull the gun away early, fight for control of the gun once the defender has their hands on it, or fall to the ground as if knocked out. If at any point the defender loses control and fail to regain it they do 5 pushups before the next rep. If they successfully defend 5 times, the attacker does 10 pushups.

Defender; Fast and aggressive defense against headlock. When bumped, Back Fallbreak, Kick, get up fast and continue with counter attacks until Attacker calls “Time”. Reset!

Advanced (C1)

Muay Thai Pads: 3- 3 Min Rounds- 2 Min Rest, 200 Meter Run During Rest

Round 1- Combinations and Kicks- Non stop punches during the last 30 sec

Round 2- Opposite stance- Combinations, Kicks, add sprawls, Last 30 Sec- Thai Clinch- Non stop knees.

Round 3- Combinations, Kicks, Sprawls (switch fighting stance after every sprawl), add elbows and knees, Last 30 Sec- Non stop round kicks

Spinning Heel Kick

Advanced Gun- from the Front, assailant pushing

Basic Takedown Defense

DRILL:

Grps 3, Striker, Padholder, Attacker. Striker sends Palm Heels to Pad. Attacker gives verbal cue. Striker stops striking, orients toward Attacker. Attacker attempts takedown, Striker stops takedown and resumes striking.

Wrist Releases

DRILL - FINAL:

Grps 3, Striker, Padholder, Attacker. Same as above, but Attacker can attempt to capture Strikers arm and grab wrist. Striker should continue striking with free hand while using wrist release. Attacker can also give verbal cue for takedown attempt.

DRILL:

Roaming Attackers. Defenders begin at one end of gym and perform Forward or Backward Roll across mat. Attackers mount Defenders as they land.

Same as above, but Attackers mount holding a pad across chest. Defender begins sending all out strikes to pad. Padholder cues “SWITCH!” passing the pad to the Defender. Defender bucks to begin Trap, Buck & Roll.

Ground - Kick Off from Guard

DRILL - FINAL:

Same as above, but Attacker can mount or dive into guard, attempting to mount. Defend accordingly.

DRILL1:

Note: Yes, it will be hard. If defender fails to capture arm after several attacks, pair should reset.

DRILL2:

Same as above, but Defender can wrap arm or defend and make distance, depending on opportunity.

DRILL3:

Same as above, but Defender can use both hands.

DRILL - FINAL: Musical Knives

Grps 2, one knife. Knives thrown randomly on floor. All walk randomly. On instructor’s “GO!” find a knife and attack ANYONE!

BEGINNER (A1)

Ground - Back Position/Movement

Ground - Getup

Ground - Front Kick

DRILL:

Groups of 2, Striker, Padholder. Striker in back position. Padholder moves around, Striker follows accordingly. When Padholder approaches, Striker sends 1-2 Front Kicks and gets to feet, running to new spot and going to back. Padholder chases and resumes circling in new position.

Ground - Round Kick

DRILL:

Groups of 2, Striker, Padholder. Strikers begin in back position, eyes closed. Padholders roam, setting up for either side Round Kick then giving verbal cue. Striker opens eyes, sends appropriate Round Kick, gets to feet, runs to new spot and resets on back, eyes closed.

DRILL - FINAL: Bull in Ring

Groups of 4-5, Striker, Pad1, Pad2, Pad3, Focus Mitts Holder (optional). Striker in back position. Pad 1 in front, Pad2 and Pad3 on sides, Focus Mitts behind. Pads give verbal cue, Striker sends appropriate kick. Focus Mitts swat at Striker’s head, if included. Continue for time. On instructor’s “UP!” cue, Striker gets to feet appropriately.

Same as above, but replace Uppercut attack with Straight Stab (both begin with knife in hand). On cue, find new partner.

Gun Front 2 Handed Technique

DRILL:

Groups of 3, Defender, Padholder, Attacker. Defender sends all out strikes to Pad. Attacker approaches from either side of Pad and points gun. Defend and return to striking.

Advanced Gun Front - Kneeling Position

DRILL:

Defenders neutral/eyes closed. Attackers give verbal cue. If close enough, Defender should use 2 Hand defense. If too far away, Attacker will order to knees and approach. Once close enough, defend using Kneeling defense.

Advanced Gun Front - Mounted

DRILL - FINAL:

Defenders eyes closed, transition between standing, kneeling and laying on back. Attackers roam giving verbal/tactile cue. Defend from position appropriately and return to transitioning eyes closed.

Drill: A/B drill. Group A attacks, group B defends. Defenders start in passive stance with eyes closed. Attacks roam around and choke random defenders from the side. Defender performs skill & resets after finishing the fight.

Safety Note: Attacks should use a verbal cue immediately before the attack so that the striker can stop punching and the attackers do not inadvertently get hit.

Drill: Group of 3 or more. 1 kick shield holder, 1 striker, 1 or more attackers. Striker free works aggressive strikes on the pad. Attackers randomly attack striker with Full Nelson or any Level 1 stationary attack. Striker defends, finishes the fight and returns to striking. Safety Note: Attacks should use a verbal cue immediately before the attack so that the striker can stop punching and the attackers do not inadvertently get hit.

Beginner (A1)
Basic movement - fighting stance forward, left, right, and back
Knees (regular and round)
Movement drill - striker starts in neutral position, while a pad holder moves to their front, side, or rear. On the padholder's "go" the striker moves directly to the padholder and throws 3 knees.
360 defense
Choke from behind
Drill - defender begins in neutral stance while an attacker can attack with choke from behind. Roving attackers can attack with 360s either before or after the choke has begun.

Intermediate (C1)
Review low front and round kicks
Defense v. low round kick (absorb and shin block)
Defense v. front kick (redirect and stop)
Thai pad drills (both partners with shin pads) - pad holder calls combos and throws hooks to head and body. When the pad holder throws a kick, the striker defends and throws two straight punches.
Knife - straight stab

Advanced (C1)
Review 360 with counter
Review spin on center line
Knife - defense v. upward, downward, and straight stab
Drill - defender starts in a corner of the room with back to the wall (padded wall, if possible). One attacker stabs to the torso repeatedly from different angles while the defender tries to get out of the corner. The knife attacker and possibly one or two more attackers with kick shields tries to keep the defender in the corner.

BEGINNER CLASS

Front kick vert target

Groin kick

Drill: partner moves around with large pad, holds for front kick vertical target or groin kick

Ground position (back) and movement

Ground: getting up

Ground : front kick

Ground: round kick

Drill: movement, kick, get up, give front kick vert target

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C1)

Focus Mitts: Opposite Stance- Hooks and uppercuts

Drill: groups of 3; make the appropriate hook or uppercut while third person holds up a hand; striker must call out the hand motion.

Ground- Headlock from side Forward

Ground- Headlock from side Backward

Drill: defend either headlock from ground, get up and attack the pad with non-stop strikes until pad holder calls time. Reset!

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C1)

Focus Mitts-Opposite Stance- 3 Rounds of 2 minutes- non-stop combinations (Zero Down Time bet. Combos), 30 seconds rest bet. Rounds.

Knife on the Ground – full mount, downward stab

Gun on the Ground – full mount, trap and roll

Drill: eyes closed, open on command, react to gun or knife
