Movement from Fighting Stance (Forward, Left, Right, & Back)
Straight Punches w/ Advance & Retreat
Drill: Partners traveling in 1 lane so as not to collide with anyone else. Pad holder has a tomb stone. Starting in punching range, pad holder will either advance one step or retreat one step. Striker will respond as quickly as possible and deliver an advancing straight punch or a retreating straight punch
Choke from the side
Drill: Groups of 4. 1 tombstone pad holder, 1 defender, 1 attacker, and 1 bystander. Defender must throw broken flurries w/ full aggression at the pad. Bystander “interferes” with Defender by body blocking the pad, pulling the defender away, or pushing the defender away. The Bystander must make it difficult, not impossible, for the Defender to get back to the pad to continue with flurries. The Defender may not hit, push, pull, or otherwise “fight” the Bystander. The defender must use footwork to get around the Bystander. At any point, the Attacker may choke the defender from either side, which the Defender will address with choke from the side defense.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (B1)
360 Defense w/ Counter
Reflexive Defense vs. Front Groin Kick
DRILL:Groups of 2, Attacker, Defender. Defender begins neutral. Attacker steps in to send either a 360 attack or FGK. Defend, counter, finish and reset.
Rear Choke w/ Pull
FINAL – DRILL:Partner up the class into groups of 2 then further divide in half. One half will be working the drill from earlier. Other half will roam attacking the ATTACKERS from the other group with Rear Choke w/ Pull.

ADVANCED CLASS (B1)
Punch one direction, kick in another
Drill: Group of 3. 1 focus mitt holder, 1 striker, 1 kick shield holder. Focus mitt holder and striker free work. Kick shield holder approaches striker and gets attention verbally. Striker includes a kick with any punch of the current combination.
Full Nelson – throw
Full Nelson – sweep
Drill: Defender stands in the middle of a crash pad with eyes closed. Attacker applies full nelson. Defender either throws attacker forward or sweeps attacker backward and finishes with combatives.

BEGINNER (A3)
Palm Heel Strikes
DRILL: Strike w/ Distraction
Grps 3, Pad, Striker, Distractor. Striker sends all out Palm Heels. Distractor attempts to pull, move, obstruct strikes.

Elbows 1-3
Wrist Releases
DRILL:
Same as above, however distractor should attempt to work down to and hold wrist for release.

Grps 2, Striker Padholder. Padholder holds pad against chest. Striker sends combo of various upper body front combatives (Straight, Hammer, Elbow, etc.), eventually clinching and finishing with several knees (padholder adjusts for knees when clinched).

Warm Up: Shoulder Tag (switch partners randomly every 30 seconds). After 2 minutes, drill becomes shoulder and knee tag.

Hook Punch

Outside defense vs. Right punch

Drill: 2 people w/ boxing gloves. First round, one person attacking the whole time. Attacker throws any odd numbered combination (1, 3, 5, etc.) then throws a big looping right punch immediately after. Defender uses a combination of head movement and covering to address the combination being thrown. Upon seeing the big looping right punch, defender uses outside defense vs. right punch to capitalize on attacker’s opening. Second round, switch roles. Third round, alternate 1-for-1.

Bearhug Behind – Leverage on finger

Drill: A/B drill. Group A positions themselves with space all around on the mat and closes their eyes. Group B then attacks with bearhug from behind. Then groups switch roles.

Drill: Shoulder tag. One person in each pair designated as attacker. Attacker randomly throws spinning heel kick and defender may either use sliding defense or stopping defense

Sparring: Boxing gloves, shin guards, & head gear. Light free-work sparring. The goal is to find openings to throw spinning heel kick and recognize spinning heel kicks being thrown. Safety Note: Spinning heel kicks should be thrown with as much control as possible and targeting the shoulder instead of the head in the event the defender fails to recognize the attack or appropriately defend.

Drill: A/B Drill: A's standing in neutral position with eyes closed. B's are roaming attackers and always begin attack with verbal cue/tap for Left/Right combination. B will change level and A performs Basic Takedown Defense then 4 knees. B can then move away and attack another A OR call "DOWN" during knees. A will safely get into Ground – Back Position. B can hold for Ground – Front Kick or Ground – Round Kick depending on angle. After making appropriate kick, A will perform Tactical Get-Up and return to eyes closed.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A3)
Drill: Shared Interval Round 1: Partner groups; 1 curved kick shield; 4 minute round. 15 seconds maximum effort, on instructor's call of "SWITCH" Partner A gives pad to B and immediately begins striking with the same combative B just completed. Combatives in this order: straight punches, front kick groin, low round kick right leg, low round kick left leg.
Drill: Shared Interval Round 2: Same as above with the following order of combatives: palm strikes, forward hammerfists, 2 low round kicks right and 2 low round kicks left, sprawl to knee.

Drill: Trigger Sparring: Begin with hands only. Whenever, A throws a low round kick at B, Be defends with shin block or absorb and immediately applies a Bearhug from above. B should give active resistance and force A to maintain feet and balance. As soon as A begins follow-up combatives after bearhug defense, A and B return to hand sparring.

Round 2: 1K-10K. If combo finishes with rear leg, add hook/cross. If combo finishes with lead leg, add cross/hook.

Stick Overhead v. left or right handed attacker
Drill: Dive for the Stick: Have partners line up facing each other at the center of the mat with the stick between them. Partners should be equidistant from the stick, with elbows on knees. On instructor's call of "GO!" students attempt to grab the stick. Whoever can get it first gets to be the attacker for Stick Overhead using right or left hand and partner must make defense. Play with variations of distance (3 steps away, at opposite ends of the mat) and how they must get there (begin on stomach facing away from knife, bear crawl, army crawl, etc.). Rotate one line at regular intervals to allow for different match-ups.

Thai Pad Rounds: Round 1 - Freework combinations 1-5. Round 2 - Freework combinations 6-9. Round 3 - Freework combinations 1-9. During all rounds, pad holder should mix in calls for defensive back kick with a spin.
Ground - Arm Bar from Guard
Ground - Guard Reversal
Drill: King-of-the-hill. Depending on available space, pick up to 1/3 of your class to start as "King" of the hill. The Kings will always start on the bottom in guard. Another 1/3 of the class will be challengers. Challengers will always start on top in guard. The remaining 1/3 will be standing by on the edge of the mat waiting for an opening. Once challengers & kings are in their respective guard positions, the kings try to either execute an arm bar or guard reversal. The challengers try to improve their position (i.e. half-guard or better). Who ever succeeds first wins and remains on the mat as king. The loser joins the group on the side of the mat and is replaced by someone who was waiting.

Focus Mitt Rounds: 3, 2-min rounds. Free work combinations and movement. Add in spinning heel kicks on both sides.

Sparring Drill: 1-for-1, partners take turns throwing a combination of 2-5 strikes (medium speed, no power). Defender must incorporate movement and defenses to mitigate strikes. Both partners should try to incorporate spinning heel kicks into their combinations. Training Note: Defender's speed should always match attacker's speed. Students have a tendency to speed up their defenses when their know they're out of position. There's no power being thrown so attackers landing strikes should have little to no risk of injury for anyone.

Drill: A holds for B for Left/Right combination. At any time A can call "TAKEDOWN" and attempt to put shoulder to B's upper torso. B perform Basic Takedown Defense followed up by 2 knees.

Drill: Non-compliant attacker. Class split into A's and B's. A's stand with eyes closed in neutral position. B's can attack by tapping with pad for non-stop Left/Right Combination. During flurry, B can call "TAKEDOWN" and A performs Basic Takedown Defense. B can also attack with Choke from the Front; 2 Handed Pluck and may or may not follow up with a showing takedown attempt.

Advanced Preview: Knife; Upward Thrust
Drill: A/B Drill. Encourage attackers to make a realistic recoil from stab to ensure defenders bursting in far enough for control position. Attackers can increase speed of attack and attempt multiple stabs as round continues.
