Straight Punches

Drill: belt drill

Hammerfist to the Side; then continue with punches and knees

Choke from the Side

Drill: eyes closed, attacker either chokes or pushes with pad from the side; defender defends the choke or makes Hammerfist.

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C1)

Focus Mitts: 4 rounds of 2 minutes; 30 second rest

Review defenses v. hook and uppercut punches

Defense v. Low Round Kick (absorbing)

Sparring: punches and low round kicks

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C1)

Thai Pads: Combo #4 with knee/Thai clinch and pivot left/Right Knee/Right Elbow #6

Full Nelson, Finger Grab

Knife Upward Stab

Drill: two attackers; one makes Full Nelson; defender must defend the Full Nelson and then defend a knife attack with an upward stab; to increase the stress, have the knife attacker make stabs while the defender is still in the Full Nelson!

Front Kick to a Vertical Target

Combination: Front Kick to a Vertical Target/Left/Right Combination

Ground- Front Kick

Ground-Getting up

Combination: Ground Front Kick/Get up/Front Kick to a Vertical Target/Left/Right Combination

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C1)

Focus Mitts – 5 rounds of 1 minute each, 15 second rest; high intensity, no breaks during the round!

Defense v. Front Kick (redirecting)

Defense v. Front Kick (stopping)

Defense v. Round Kick (shin block)

Defense v. Round Kick (absorbing)

Leg Sparring!

ADVANCED CLASS (C1)

Basic combatives to pad

Drill: Belt drill – 3 rounds for advanced students!

Knife Upward Stab

Gun Front (2 handed technique)

Drill: defend knife upward or gun

Drill: as above, but include last week’s gun from the front and downward stab

BEGINNER (A1)

Straight Punches

Knees

DRILL:
Grp 2, Striker, Padholder. Padholder pushes Striker, Striker orients sends burst of punches eventually clinching, kneeing and resetting.

Front Kick Vertical Target

DRILL:
Same as above, but Padholder can cue for FKVT or straight punches. Regardless of beginning strike, Striker should finish with Clinch+Knees.

360 Defense

DRILL:
Same as above, but Padholder can swing pad for 360, hold for FKVT or Straights. Always finishing with Clinch+Knees.

DRILL - WARMUP: Slow & GO! Hammerfists

Grps 2, Striker, Padholder. GO!=All out Hammerfists, Slow=resting in fighting stance.

Headlock Side

Ground - Headlock Side Backward

Ground - Kicking Off from Guard (if time)

DRILL - FINAL: Role Reversal

Roaming attackers. Defenders begin mounted on pad for Ground & Pound. Attacker roam, applying Headlock Side, or throw to ground for Ground Headlock Side or scramble into guard for Kick Off. After defending, DEFENDER goes roaming and ATTACKER mounts pad.

STANDING:

-Headlock Side - Spinning Inward

GROUND:

-Ground - Headlock Mounted

-Ground - Headlock Side: Forward-Wrap, Forward-Roll, Backward

DRILL - FINAL:

Roaming Attackers. Defenders, eyes closed, transition from standing to laying flat on ground. Attackers apply any Headlock based on position.

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)

Combo: Left/Right/Left Knee

Review Groin Kick and/or elbows if necessary

Choke from the Front (2 hands)

Choke from Behind

Drill: eyes closed, either choke

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C1)

Focus Mitts: Left/Right Elbow

Headbutt Forward

Focus Mitts: Left/Right Elbow/Headbutt

Drill: slow work, all lower level self defense, include head butts in counterattacks whenever possible

Ground - Headlock from the Side Going Forward

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C1)

Thai Pads: 2 three minute rounds; one round in opposite stance

One Arm Shoulder Throw

Forward Sweep - from Muay Thai Clinch, pull attacker to the side and trip leg as he moves

Drill: start in Thai Clinch; partner slides one arm inside to escape clinch; execute a One Arm Shoulder Throw using that arm

(not sure if this is the best tactic, but it's a fun way to practice the throw!)

Sparring: team sparring - groups of 2 - one person observes partner spar, then gives him advice during the rest period; 1 minute rounds, 30 second rest.

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)

Use basic Wrist Release as part of warm up (only "elbow to elbow"

Note: most of these combatives should be review; go quickly!

Palm Heel Strikes

Groin Kick

Drill: eyes closed; attacker shoves with pad, then holds for palm strikes OR groin kick; defender opens eyes and must recognize the target and strike

Elbow #3 & 5

Drill: attacker pushes from behind, give elbow #3 or 5 and turn and give knees

Choke from Behind

Focus Mitts: Left/Comb#8

Focus Mitts: Right/Combo #9

Ground - Headlock from the Side, Forward

Drill: attacker resists; control if possible OR break off and create distance

Ground Forward Roll

Drill: Work todays combo on focus mitts; pad holder calls out a number of Forward rolls, i.e.) 1, 2, 3… on pad holders signal, striker makes the number of rolls called, gets up and continues working the pads

Headlock from the side

ADVANCED (C1)

Thai Pads form opposite stance- 2-3 minute rounds, double up on the last technique of each combination (Focusing on Power)

Advanced Gun- from the front assailant pushing, slapping, kicking

Advanced Gun- from the front assailant using off hand

Drill: Groups of 3-4, non-stop Gun threats; 2 rounds- first round 50% speed and power, second round- Fast, Strong and aggressive!!

BEGINNER (A1)

DRILL - WARMUP: G&P Slow & GO!

Each student mounts a kickshield. On “GO!” send all out Hammerfists to pad. On “SWITCH!” must get up and find a new pad.

Hammerfist Side

Knees w/ Clinch

DRILL:

Grps 2, Striker, Padholder. Padholder cues Striker with pad tap on either side. Striker sends appropriate Hammerfist, orients and finishes with Knees then resets.

Choke Side

DRILL - FINAL:

Same as pad drill above, but Padholder can cue for strikes or apply Choke Side.

DRILL - FINAL:
Same strike combo as above, but Padholder can also apply either Bearhug. Reset.

DRILL - WARMUP:

Grps 2, Striker, Padholder. Striker performs:

20s Pushups + 10s Straight Punches, 20s Squats + 10s Front Groin Kicks, 20s Alternating Knees to Elbow (in plank) + 10s Knees. Switch. If necessary, do two rounds per person.

*Have attacker wear a focus mitt on non-gun hand. As defender is disarming, position pad for counters with the gun.

Drill: groups of three; both confront defender, one person attacks, either with gun or knife
