BEGINNER CLASS (A2)
Movement - Fighting Stance Moving Forward, Backward, Left, and Right
Round Kick
Drill: "Find your partner around the world." 1 striker, 1 tombstone pad holder. Striker lays face down, eyes shut. Pad holder relocates somewhere else in the room. When instructor yells, "GO!" strikers get up, find their partner, then throw flurry round kicks & groin kicks as pad holder moves tombstone in U-shape pattern. Once instructor calls, "Time!" striker's reset and pad holders find a new spot.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C2)

Defensive Front Kick

Ground - Foot Grab Strip
A/B Drill: Half the class attacks, other half defends. Defenders stand in passive stance, eyes shut. Attackers may do any of the following: (1) approach with a kick shield and verbally get defender's attention for Defensive Front Kick, (2) perform a simple tackle of defender to end up in guard, (3) Moderately shove the defender to "knock them down" and grab one of their feet. Safety note: Tackling and shoving defenders should cause an urgent fall, but be controlled enough to allow defenders to successfully Fall Break.

ADVANCED CLASS (C2)

Overhand Right Punch
Focus Mitt Drill: Round 1 - Review Combos 7 (Uppercut/Cross/Hook) & 8 (Uppercut/Hook/Cross). Round 2 - Replace all Crosses with Overhand punches for combo "7-Over" (Uppercut/Overhand/Hook) & "8-Over" (Uppercut/Hook/Overhand). Round 3 - Freework combos 7, 7-Over, 8, & 8-Over.
Ground - Leg Triangle from Guard
Sparring Drill: 1-for-1, partners take turns throwing any combination 1-10 (hands only) to set up a basic take-down/tackle to guard. Once in guard, person on bottom executes a Leg Triangle while person on top provides appropriate resistance to make it difficult, but not impossible.

ADVANCED CLASS (C2)

Thai Pads: 3K and 4k; pad holder sometimes makes a hook; defender blocks and counters with hook/cross or cross/hook

Knife - Downward Stab Off Angle (Dead Side) -- block, counter, and disengage

Knife - Downward Stab Off Angle (Dead Side) -- make the complete defense

Knife - Downward stab Off Angle (Dead Side) -- attacker recoils, burst in to wrap with other arm

 

BEGINNER CLASS (A2)

Straight Punch

Straight Punch Low

Covering Drill: partner throws 4 palm strikes, 2 to the face and 2 to the body; defender covers head and contracts abs to try to cover body (without exposing face too much), to defend, then moves away.

Inside Defense

Inside Defense v. Straight Punch Low

Drill: Right hand only, Defend high or low straight punch

Drill: Left hand only, defend high or low straight punch

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C2)

Focus Mitts: Combos 6 & 7

Defensive Front Kick

Drill: focus mitt holder advanced from distance; defender makes Defensive Front Kick (lightly), then follows up with combo 6 or 7

Bearhug Behind, Arms Free

Drill: as above with focus mitts, but third person makes Bearhug from Behind, Arms Free, at any time.

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C2)

Drill: Groups of 2; 1 pad holder; 1 striker. Striker performs 5 round kicks right and 5 round kicks left, then Straight Punch with Advance to one end of the mat, sprawls, and makes Straight Punch with Retreat back to starting point, then sprawls again. Students switch roles and places after each round completed. As many rounds as possible for time.

Drill: Groups of 3; A has curved kick shield; B is defender; C has curved kick shield and attacks. A calls "ADVANCE!" for 4 Straight Punches with Advance, "RETREAT!" for 4 Straight Punches with Retreat, or holds for Round Kick. At any time, C can call "DOWN!" and B gets to ground in Side Position, (can back fall break if they know how, otherwise just sit safely), orients towards C, and performs Side Kick from the Ground. C can also drop pad and attack B with Headlock from Behind.

Intermediate (C2)
Gloves and Shin guards for Partner Drills
Round 1: Using gloves like focus mitts, A holds for B for free work, hands only, plus sprawls. 2:30 round, then switch.
Round 2: Now A holds for B, calling combinations 1K-4K or 1K-10K, depending on what their partner knows. B should place kick on leg or body with control. On receiving the kick, A can absorb kicks to the leg or 3 point block round kick to the body, but impact should be very light. 2:30 round, then switch roles.
Defense v. High Round Kick (2 and 3 points)
Defense v. High Round Kick (covering)
Round 3: Same as Round 2, but now in between calling for combinations, A can attack B with High Round Kick. B defends using 2 or 3 point block or covering.
Ground – Kick off from Guard
Ground – foot grab strip
Drill: Round 3 from earlier, but now in addition to calling combinations and throwing the High Round Kick, A can call "DOWN" and mimic takedown motion. B gets on their back and A can get in guard for Kick off From the Guard or grab foot for Foot Grab Strip.\

Round 3: After making 2 Straight Knees with a Switch, Striker grabs focus mitt like back of head and makes Mouth of Hand Punch
Gun from the Side, Behind the Arm
Knife – attacker holding defender with left hand
Drill: Scatter enough knives and guns across the mat so that only half the class will be able to get a weapon. Have students run in random directions around mat, backwards, forwards, zig-zag, sideways. On instructor's call of "GO" students can attempt to grab whatever weapon is closest to them. Students who get a weapon will be attackers. Students who cannot secure a weapon are defenders and wait in passive stance. Depending on weapon, Attackers make Gun from the Side, Behind the Arm or Knife – attacker holding defender with left hand. Once all the defenders have been attacked, weapons go back on the ground and students return to running.

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)
Elbows 1-3
Drill: Groups of 3, Striker, Pad 1, Pad 2. Striker sends all out strikes to Pad 1. Pad 2 cues for either Elbow 2 or 3. Striker sends appropriate Elbow and orients to send all out strikes to Pad 2.
Hammerfist Side
Drill: Groups of 3, Striker, Pad 1, Pad 2. Striker sends all out strikes to Pad 1. Pad 2 cues for either Elbow 2, Elbow 3, or Hammerfist Side. Striker sends appropriate strike and orients to send all out strikes to Pad 2.
Choke Rear
Drill:Same as above but Pad 2 can cue for a strike or attack with Choke Rear. If attacked, Defender should return to striking original pad after defense.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C1)
Bobbing and Weaving Front Kick with Advance (fighting and neutral)
Combo-Front Kick with Advance, Left/Right Combo followed by Right Elbow
Defense v. Low Round Kick (Shin Block)
Drill: Light Strikes- Attacker; Straight punches, Hooks and Low Round Kicks. Defender; Bobbing and Weaving, Blocking and Defense v. Low Round Kick (shin block)

Drill: punching or kicking, gunman makes gun threats from the side or behind or from distance orders defender to kneel, then approaches; defender; makes the appropriate defense.

Drill: move around, pad holder calls out for either palm strike combination or either kick combination. Be sure to make them exhausted!

Focus Mitts: right hook from deescalation position (modified fight stance)

Drill: make right hook, then follow with two or three combinations called out by partner

Ground - Escape Side Control

Ground - Kick Off from Guard

Forward Roll, Back Fall Break

Drill: make forward roll, back fall break; partner follows and jumps into side control; defender escapes side control to guard, then does Kick Off from Guard

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C1)

50/50 Clinch practice - drill to get double under hooks or Thai clinch

One Arm Shoulder Throw

Drill: 50/50 clinch, transition to One-Arm Shoulder Throw (create space, when attacker closes space, shift to throw)

Knife Upward Stab

Drill: 50/50 clinch, attacker disengages right arm and draws knife for upward stab

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)

Left/Right Combination

Basic Takedown Defense

Drill: Left/Right Combination; pad holder then pushes forward and defender must hold them off with Basic Takedown Defense

Choke from the Front (2)

Drill: attacker makes Choke from the Front; defender makes the defense; attacker drives forward aggressively, and the defender must make Basic Takedown Defense to control distance. Give knees when possible.

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C1)

Focus Mitts: Combinations 6&7

Focus Mitts: Combinations 8 (right upper/left hook/right straight) & 9 (left upper/right straight/left hook)

Self Defense/Framing Position (same as position for knees) and Muay Thai Clinch practice

Drill: make combinations 6 or 7 to focus mitts; pad holder then moves forward aggressively; striker works the clinch, then makes combination 8 0r 9

Light Sparring, hands only

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C1)

Sparring: 10 rounds, 1 minute per round, :15 second rest. Do 2 rounds with each partner. At the beginning of each round, one person closes his eyes; partner initiates with an aggressive shove followed by a haymaker; the other person defends, and then the fight is on!

Gun from the Front - under chin, holding hair, shirt, etc.

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)

Stance and Movement

Left/Right Combination

Drill: striker makes Left/Right Combination; after the combination, the pad holder "punches" the pad forward to try to touch the striker; striker must move out of range after each combination

Discussing covering/"shelling"

Drill: Left/Right combination; after the combination, the pad holder "punches" the pad forward to touch the defender; defender covers up to defend.

Elbow #1

Drill: as above, but cover covering, the defender makes Elbow #1 (assign right elbow for a while, then left elbow)

360 Defense

Drill: groups of 3; repeat the drill above, but have a second attacker wait on either side. Sometimes this attacker will step in and make 360 attack

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C1)

Hook Punch (short lesson, just enough to make sure everyone is punching safely)

Focus Mitts: combinations 1-4

Defense v. Low Kick (shin block)

Drill: pad holder moves around and calls out combinations 1-4; sometimes, pad holder makes low round kick and striker must defend

Headlock from the Side

Drill: as above, but a third person attacks the striker with Headlock from the Side at any time.

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C1)

Focus Mitts: Combinations 6 & 7

Knife - Downward Stab; teach the whole technique, but emphasize disengaging if you cannot control the knife

Knife - Upward Stab; teach the whole technique, but emphasize disengaging if you cannot control the knife

Drill: either attack; if you cannot control the knife, disengage and run/create distance
