Drill: Defender; Eyes closed, attacker; makes a Bearhug from Behind Arms Free or gives a verbal signal, makes Left/Right combination
Ground- Escape form Guard (gouge and stack)
Drill: Groups of 3, One large pad; defender; escape from Guard, stands up, pad holder walks towards defender, defender makes a Defensive Front Kick followed by non stop punches until pad holder calls "Time". Reset!

Advanced (A2)
Drill: Striking Transition- non stop striking drill; the attacker starts in a standing position, striking on pad; then he drops to his knees, then to his back, then again back to his knees, then standing.. but never stops striking! Alternate with partner, three rounds each
Knife- defense v. downward stab- (work both sides & different angles)
Ground- Def. v. Full Mount, hands pinned
Drill: Groups of 3 and a small pad; Defender starts on the ground and defends against Full Mount, Hands pinned, stands up, non stop strikes on pad, attacker; gives a verbal signal, Knife- downward stab- (either side, off angle)

Drill: “Monkey in the Middle” – group of 5 people; 1 person in the middle, 3 people with pads, 1 attacker; the person in the middle must strike different pads on command; at any time, the attacker can make Choke From Behind

Combination: Left Uppercut/Right Straight/muay thai clinch/Left Knee

Outside Defenses 1-5

Drill: defender’s eyes are closed; partner gives a verbal signal and attacks with STRAIGHT PUNCH from any angle; defender must defense and counter.

Striker 1 must perform 20 punches and 10 round kicks right, 10 round kicks left on curved kick shield, meanwhile Striker 2 is performing Ground & Pound Palm Heel Strikes on 2nd curved KS. Once Striker 1 finishes they take curved kick shield, padholder goes to G&P station, Striker 2 goes to punches and round kick station, etc.

Round 1: A calls for Basic combinations using gloves as Focus Mitts. A can make Straight Punch Low at any time, B defends.

Round 2: A can make High Round Kick at any time between calling combinations. B makes 2 and 3 point block.

Round 3: A can make High Round Kick at any time between calling combinations. B makes covering defense.

Reverse Headlock Standing

Drill: 3-step isolation sparring with Reverse Headlock Standing. A can attack B with Straight Punch Low or  High Round Kick. If A lands Straight Punch Low, B must lean forward as if struck and A applies Reverse Headlock Standing. B makes defense. Partners switch roles every 3 combatives.

Drill: Combative Stations: Curved KS holders line up across from Strikers. KS holder always hold for the same combative while Strikers change stations. 30 seconds at each station. On instructor’s call of “ROTATE!” everyone shifts right. Station 1: Spinning Outside Slap Kick. Station 2: 2 Jumping Front Kicks. Station 3: Jumping Side Kick. Station 4: Round kick to a sprawl. Station 5: 2 punches and a push-up.

Drill: Groups of 3. 1 Thai pad holder, 1 striker, 1 kick shield holder. Striker and Thai pad holder free-work basic combos 1-4 with a kick. At any time kick shield holder may whack striker's body with kick shield to signal striker to drop into side position. Striker must get into side ground position as quickly as possible and deliver side kicks to create enough space for striker to stand back up. Once striker is up, back to Thai pads & repeat.

At any time attacker may bearhug striker from behind (arms free). Striker must defend, finish with combatives, then return to drilling with defender.

Advanced (A2)

Focus Mitt Rounds: Round 1 - free work combinations. Pad holder calls "Spin!" for spinning outside slap kicks in between combos. Round 2 - All combos end with spinning outside slap kick.
Knife - Defense vs. Forward Slash
Knife - Defense vs. Left Handed Attacker (forward slash)

Beginner (A2)
Review stance and movement
Straight punch with advance
Drill: students pair off with one focus mitt. Pad holder will slowly move the pad to the side of their body and the puncher will try to land a jab or cross to the pad before the pad holder can move it away. For the second round increase the distance and attempt to do the same with advancing straight punches
Straight punch with retreat
Drill: students pair off with one tombstone pad. Pad holder advances forward while puncher delivers hard retreating straight punches. At a predetermined distance the pad holder calls "down!" and the striker does a fall break, gets up, and covers the same distance forward with straight knees from the Thai clinch.

Ground - side mount knee to belly (disengage)
Drill: ground and pound with transitions. Round 1 - each student has a tombstone pad or ground dummy and strikes from positions called out by instructor. Include side mount, full mount, knee to belly, standing, and all transitions between. Round 2 - students pair off, and student on "top" tries to get to the position called out by the instructor as quickly as possible, while person on bottom resists.

Advanced (A2)
Warm up: shadow boxing, then body sparring (boxing only)
Review 360 and counter
Drill: 360 and counter using Thai pads or focus mitts. Pad holder puts up "target" first (well away from the face), then swings for the attack.
Knife - defense vs upward stab
Knife - defense vs straight stab
Drill: attacker pins defender against wall (use a corner if possible) using straight arm and/or clinch, while also delivering knife stabs to the body. Defender must get free to deliver strikes on tombstone until "time" is called, then the drill repeats.

Beginner (A2)

Drill: Groups of 2 (partners should be about same size and hight), Small shield; Non stop Palm Heel Strikes, on instructors signal "GO", striker Fireman or Piggy back carries pad holder to the opposite end of the room and back, and continues with strikes.

Drill: Groups of 4-5; 90 seconds, One defender, non stop attacks.

Ground- Trap and Roll (quick review)
Drill: Groups of 3; defender; Strikes from the mount, 2nd person safely tackles defender off the pad and mounts them, defender; escapes the mount and gets up, 3rd person, then immediately makes Reverse Headlock. Repeat.

Advanced (A2)

Knife- Defense v. Downward Stab (work both sides, and off angle)

Focus Mitts - 2 rounds of  3 minutes; sometimes pad holder closes distance, striker clinches with with framing position or over/under hooks

Drill: Groups of 3; 2 pad holders, 1 Striker. Padholder 1 calls "ADVANCE" for 4 advancing straight punches or "RETREAT" for 4 retreating punches. At any time, Padholder 2 can give tap to Striker from behind. Striker makes Elbow 4 or Elbow 5 depending on hold, turns and faces for 4 advancing punches, and then returns to Padholder 1.

Drill: Same as previous drill, but Padholder 2 can also apply Headlock from Behind at any time.

Drill: A begins on ground in Basic Ground Position. B is standing and moving, forcing A to make movement on ground. B grabs A's foot at any time and attempts to get Side Mount. A makes appropriate Foot Grab defense.

 

Advanced (A2)

Thai Pad Cauldron

Round 1: Free work with pad holder calling all combinations including kicks + cover against the cross, counter with a #6

Round 2: For every call with a kick, Striker makes 2 round kicks + cover against the lead hook, counter with a #7

Round 3:  opposite stance! Parry the (in theory, opposite stanced opponent’s) cross, and counter with a lead hook and cross. For every call with a kick, Striker makes 3 round kicks. Add sprawls on Instructor's call.

Advanced Gun – from kneeling position

Drill: Roaming attackers. Defender/Striker begins mounted on pad sending all out strikes. Attackers “throw” strikers to ground and pick up pad. Striker gets into Ground – Back position, tracking padholder and sending kicks when approached. After several kicks, padholder should throw pad down, for mount/strikes, OR attackers can make a verbal cue and apply Advanced Gun – from kneeling position. Defender must make defense starting from mounted position on pad.

BEGINNER CLASS (A2)

Drill: Cauldron. 1 tombstone pad holder, 1 striker. Pad holder can call any of the following commands; punches high, punches low, kick, or sprawl. Pad holder is responsible for presenting pad for appropriate strike (i.e. calling "kick" and holding for either a groin kick or round kick). Round 1 - single combinations of everything. Round 2 - double combinations. Round 3 - triple combinations.
Inside Defense vs. Low Straight Punch
Choke from Front (1-handed)
Drill: A/B drill. Group A attacks, group B defends. Defenders stand in passive stance, eyes shut. Attackers either choke from front, or lightly shove defender before throwing low straight punch. Note: attackers should only shove hard enough to make defenders take 1 step back at most.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A2)

Focus Mitt Rounds: Free work combinations. Pad holders can call for slap kicks at any time. Round 1 - Combinations only. Round 2 - add sprawls. Round 3 - add bobbing/weaving.
Reverse Headlock Standing
Drill: Groups of 3. 1 focus mitt holder, 1 striker, 1 attacker. Repeat round 3 from focus mitt rounds above. Attacker may jump in at any time to apply reverse headlock standing on striker. Striker must allow attack to come on before defending, finish with combatives then return to focus mitt work.

ADVANCED CLASS (A2)
Scissor Round Kick

Thai Pad Rounds: Free work all combinations with a kick. Round 1 - Standard Combinations with regular round kicks. Round 2 - All kicks become scissor round kicks. Round 3 - All kicks become jumping round kicks.
Knife - Defense vs. Straight Stab
Knife - Defense vs. Back Slash
Drill: A/B drill. Group A attacks, Group B defends. Defenders stand in passive stance, eyes shut. Attackers may either straight stab or back slash defenders. No verbal warnings, attacker simply begin attacking rapidly with their chosen attack. Defenders must respond quickly & appropriately.

BEGINNER CLASS (A2)

Straight Punch (review)

Learning to make a straight punch from a passive or unprepared stance. The punch should lead into a fighting stance. For more advanced students, make the punch at various angles.

Front Kick to the Groin (review)

Learning to make a groin kick from a passive or unprepared stance. The kick should lead into a fighting stance. For more advanced students, make the punch at various angles.

Drill: eyes closed; partner holds the pad for straight punch or front kick and gives verbal signal; defender opens his eyes and makes the appropriate strike, with additional strikes from a fighting stance

Choke from the Front with a Push

Drill: barricade drill -- defender stands with eyes closed; an attacker makes choke from the front with a push; defender defends, then must burst through a group holding pads (include proper safety!), and then give 1o left/right combinations to a pad. The group making the barricade should be arranged in pairs: two people stand shoulder to shoulder with pads, then two more behind them, then two more behind them, etc. They should NOT give too much resistance. For SAFETY, the defender must keep his hands lower than the pads (to avoid accidental strikes to the paddlers' faces).

Bearhug from Behind (arms free)

Ground - Trap and Roll

Drill: slowly, have the attacker make a Bearhug from Behind and then pull the defender to the ground (defender must cooperate). To signal cooperation, the attacker says "Down, down." When the defender is on the ground, the attacker takes full mount. The defender then makes Trap and Roll.

Drill: one attack/one defend using Inside Defenses; random attackers move around the room and make Bearhug From Behind, Arms Free to the punchers (not the defenders). Sometimes they make regular Bearhug, sometimes they make the person go the ground and defend Full Mount using Trap and Roll.

ADVANCED CLASS (A2)

After warm up, basic shoot/sprawl slowly to review

Focus Mitts: basic combinations. Pad holder can shoot in at any time, defender must sprawl; 2 rounds of 2 minutes

Drill: multiple attackers; move and make defenses, try to deal with one attacker at a time; counter when possible; include shoot/sprawl if safety allows for it; (open hands, light training)

Gun from the Front

Gun from Behind at a Distance

Drill: groups of 4, one defender; attackers make punches, defender must move to deal with one attacker at a time; at any time, an attacker can point a gun from the side or front at a distance; defender must defend, take the weapon, and then continue with the drill.
