BEGINNER CLASS (A1)
Movement – Fighting Stance (forward, backward, left, right)
Basic takedown defense (changing height, moving feet)
360 Defense
Drill: 1 partner attacks, the other defends. Defender stands in passive stance, eyes shut. Attacker gives verbal cue and attacks after defender opens their eyes.
Advanced Drill: have an advanced student or instructor roam around training area with a training knife and step in randomly as an attacker for the drill above.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS  (C1)
Uppercut Punch
Focus Mitt Drill: Round 1 – Combo 1: Jab/Slip/Lead Uppercut. Round 2 – Combo 2: Jab/Cross/Slip/Rear Uppercut. Round 3 – Free work Combos 1 & 2.
Defense vs. Low Round Kick (adsorbing)
Review: Defense vs. Low Round Kick (shin block)
Focus Mitt Drill: Same as above, but now striker adds round kicks at the end of the combinations for pad holder to block or adsorb.
Sparring Drill: 1-for-1 Standard Kickboxing combinations 1 or 2. Round kicks should be mixed into combinations. Start at 50% speed, 1% power. Once students are comfortable, free work sparring.

ADVANCED CLASS (C1)

Thai Pads – 3 rounds of 2 minutes, 30 seconds rest
Forward Slash
Back Slash
Slash variation – like general defense
Using common objects as shields
Drill: recognize attack, decide whether or not you have time to access common objects, defend

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)

Choke from Front (2 Handed)

Drill: Groups of 3, Attacker; makes Choke from Front, during the defense, pad holder bumps defender from the side, Defender; Reacts to the bump with a side hammerfist strike, turns and immediately follows with counter attacks until time is called. Reset!

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS  (C1)

Bobbing and Weaving

Front Kick with Advance (fighting and neutral)

Combo-Front Kick with Advance, Left/Right Combo followed by Right Elbow

Defense v. Low Round Kick (Shin Block)

Drill: Light Strikes- Attacker; Straight punches, Hooks and Low Round Kicks. Defender; Bobbing and Weaving, Blocking and Defense v. Low Round Kick (shin block)

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (B3)
Focus Mitts- Left Jab, Right Uppercut, Left Hook, Right Cross
Defensive Back kick
Drill: Groups of 3, Focus Mitts, Large Kicking Shield; Striker; works todays combination on focus mitts, 2nd pad holder walks towards striker from behind and gives verbal signal, striker; makes a back kick and continues working the mitts.

Note: this class will have a lot of combative and drills to tire out the students. The end of class will include wrist releases, which are slow. Make them exhausted first!

Drill: eyes closed, attacker hits with pad from either side, then holds at different ranges; defender must recognize the range and give the appropriate attack (elbow, hammerfist, or side kick) then follow up with additional counterattacks

Drill: as above, but also include Bearhug From Behind

 

ADVANCED CLASS (B3)

Focus mitts: 2 rounds of 3 minutes, include slips and counters

Ground - defend against kicks (block similar to round kick defenses), then get up. You can include the Single Leg Takedown (toe pick) if you know it!

Hip Throw

Drill: from the clinch, Partner A makes Hip Throw, then kicks Partner B; Partner B makes kick defense on the ground and gets up

Beginner (B3)

Punches- Straight Punch

Hammerfist to the Side

Knees

Drill 1: Groups of 3: Striker, 2 Padholders. Padholder 1 holds for 4 straight punches or 2 knees. Padholder 2 gives verbal cue for Hammerist to the Side followed by 4 punches. Striker then returns to Padholder 1.

Drill 2: Vision Drill: same as previous Drill 1, but Padholder 2 can drop pad and stand at a 45 degree angle in front of Striker and hold up a hand; striker must call out how many fingers they are holding up.

Drill 3: Same as Drill 2 but Padholder 2 can make motion of drawing gun from waistband or knife from pocket. Striker calls "GUN" or "KNIFE"

Choke from the Side

Final Drill: Same as above, but Padholder 2 can tap or verbal cue for Elbow or Hammerfist followed by 4 straight punches, mimic gun or knife motion, or apply Choke from the Side.

Intermediate (B3)

Side Kick (with and without advance)

Back Kick

Groups of 3; 2 curved KS holders; 1 striker

Round 1: Target recognition on Pad 1 (2 hand combatives, Front Kick Groin, Round Kick, or Knee), Pad holder 2 can verbal cue at close range or mid-range for Hammerfist/Elbow from side or behind + 6 hand combatives

Round 2: Padholder 2 can also verbal cue from further away for Side Kick or back kick. Striker makes appropriate combative for the range and follows up with 6 hand combatives.

Round 3: on "DOWN!" Striker lays flat on stomach and pad holders dog pile. Once Striker is out, nonstop G&P until instructor calls "TIME!" then back to drill

Bearhug from Behind (lifting)

Final Drill: Round 2 from earlier but Padholder 2 can drop pad and make Hair Grab from Behind or Bearhug from Behind (lifting). Striker makes defense and then returns to Padholder 1.

Advanced (B3)

Round 1: Free work using combinations 1-10 + 2Reload (Jab/Cross/Cross/Hook)

Drill: Shark tank. 1 defender, 2-4 attackers. Defender starts in passive stance, eyes shut. When round begins, attackers may either present a tombstone pad for elbows 4 or 5, present a focus mitt for eye strikes, or choke from behind with a push.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (B3)
Basic Take-down Defense/Spinning on Center-line
Outside Defenses 1-5
Focus Mitt Drill: 1 striker, 1 mitt holder, 1 attacker. Pad holder and striker free work combinations. Attacker verbally gets striker's attention before bursting in with one straight punch from outside. Striker defends, counters with combatives, and returns to pad work.
Choke from the Front Against a Wall
Choke from Behind Against a Wall
Drill: Ring-around-the-rosy. 1 defender, 1 attacker. Defender stands 2-3 feet away from a wall in passive stance with eyes shut. Defender starts turning around constantly in place, keeping eyes shut until attacked. Attacker should time their attack to either choke from the front or rear and push defender into wall. Defender completes skill and finishes with combatives before resetting back to passive stance & spinning in front of wall again.

ADVANCED CLASS (B3)
Thai Pad Rounds: Round 1 - free work combinations with 1 kick. Round 2 - free work combinations with 2 kicks (one medium, one high).
General Defense vs. Medium to High Round Kicks

Stick - Baseball Bat Defense (both sides)
Drill: Don't bat an eye. 1 defender, rest of class attacking. All basic choke defenses and baseball bat attacks are fair game. Note: Once defender gets to control position & begins delivering combatives, the next attack should be coming on.

Sparring: 1 minute rounds, hands only, light contact

 

ADVANCED CLASS (B3)

Thai Pads: 2 rounds of 3 minutes, include round kicks and knees

Drill: 2 minute round, 1 attack, 1 defend, two or three punch combinations (hands only)

Drill: 2 minute round, 1 attack, 1 defend, two or three strike combinations (hands and kicks)

Defend/Counter Drill: 2 minute round, attacker makes any two punches; defender defends and makes 2 counters

Defend/Counter Drill: 2 minute round, attacker makes any kick; defender defends and makes 2 counters

Sparring: 2 minute rounds, light contact

BEGINNER CLASS (B3)

Round Kick (emphasize switch kick for forward leg; this will help with the self defense later on)

Drill: Partners. 90 second round. Straight punches to head at 30% speed, open hand punches to body at 100% speed. If A can touch B’s stomach, B owes 5 round kicks to be paid at the end of round all in one go. Switch.

Intermediate (B3)

Round 1: Free work with combinations 1K-4K
Round 2: Pad holder can mimic takedown at any time. Striker makes basic takedown defense, makes knee, and spins on centerline to 2 knees.
Round 3: Same as Round 2, but pad holder can now apply sloppy clinch and active resistance after spin on centerline to knees. Striker must maintain balance and attempt to stabilize clinch. On pad holder's call of "BREAK!" Striker will disengage clinch and make Combination #8 (Rear uppercut/lead hook/cross).
Ground – side mount position and strikes
Ground – arm lock from the side
Ground – side mount knee to belly (disengage)

Advanced (B3)
Thai Pads--begin every round with 10 round kicks right and 10 round kicks left!
Round 1: Free work including punch and kick combinations, elbows, and knees
Round 2: Add spinning outside slap kick on pad holder's call
Round 3: Add cover against hook to the head and counters. If Striker covers on rear side, Striker follows up with Combination #6 (cross/hook/cross). If Striker covers on lead side, Striker follows up with Combination #7 (hook/cross/hook).
Stick – overhead defense
Stick – baseball bat defense
Stick – dead side
Drill: Monkey in the Middle: Groups of 3-4; Defender in Center, everyone else is an Attacker. All stick defenses.

BEGINNER CLASS (B3)

Drill: 1 tombstone pad holder, 1 striker. Pad holder moves 1 step in any direction. Striker moves to recover punching range and delivers one strike while doing so (either jab or cross)

Drill: Roaming attackers. Partners free work focus mitt rounds (bare handed striking). 1-3 roaming attackers may either use a gun or long-gun to threaten strikers from behind. Strikers defend, disarm, confirm situation is safe and immediately return to striking.
