Drill: A/B Drill — one person in the middle, 2 pad holders, one at each end of the room. One holds for punches (A), the other for Front Kick Vertical Target (B); instructor calls out where to go, and the person in the middle sprints there and strikes.
For added difficulty, include a sprawl in the middle of the room every time they run

ADVANCED CLASS (A3)
Ground and Pound drill
2 Knees with a switch
Drill: Groups of 2; 2 Kicking shields; striker; ground and pound, on instructors signal “Up”, get up quickly and deliver 2 knees with a switch, reset.
Stick - overhead defense
Stick – dead side
Drill: Drill: Groups of 2; 2 Kicking shields; striker; ground and pound, attacker gives a verbal signal and attacks with Stick (overhead or dead side), defender; get up as quickly as possible, make the appropriate defense and reset.

BEGINNER (A3)
Elbows 1-3
Knees (Regular and Round)
DRILL:
Grps 2, Striker, Padholder. Striker neutral, eyes closed. Padholder cues for elbow 1-3. Striker opens and sends 1-2 appropriate elbows, turns to finish with 2-3 knees and reset.

Advanced - Gun from Behind, Touching

DRILL - FINAL:
Grps 2. Defender/Striker, Padholder/Attacker. Same setup as above. Padholder/Attacker can cue for elbow/knee combo or gun defense.

Bas 1-4 (4 w/ uppercut), and/or padholder creates.
SPARRING:
Designate line for each to keep forward foot on or at least small area to stay in for round. 10-15s rounds.

DRILL-FINAL:
Grps 2. A/B. Designate one to attack with Bearhug. After taking to the ground, defender attempts to mount. Attacker can use legs to keep defender from mounting/kicking off. Reset.

+ Off/Awkward angle swings (Slow work having partner attack from various directions)

DRILL - FINAL:
Roaming/Roll Reversal. Defenders setup around gym, neutral, eyes closed. Attackers with sticks roam and cue defender from any angle for any stick attack. After defense, defender takes stick and roams to attack. Attacker sets up, becoming a defender.

Drill: Belt Drill

Hammerfist to the Side (emphasize using it for a target behind you)

Drill: pad holder pushes from behind and holds pad very close OR slightly back; defender must recognize the distance and make an Elbow or Hammerfist, then turn and give more counters

Choke from Behind - emphasize stepping to the opposite side from your normal teaching method

Drill: non-stop straight punches, attacker makes Choke from Behind

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A3)

Focus Mitss: combos 1-4

Bearhug from the Front, Arms Free (neck leverage)

Ground - Side Control

Drill: attacker makes bearhug from the front; defender makes technique, but attacker pulls him to the ground; defender establishes side control, strikes, and gets up and gives strikes to pad until reset

Round Kick (review, emphasize high kicks)

Thai Pads: Combo #3 and #4, emphasizing high round kicks

Drill: Barricade Drill- defender; eyes closed, attacker; makes either bearhug, after a successful defense, the defender runs through the barricade, puts the pad holder in a Thai Clinch and delivers 20 knee strikes.

ADVANCED CLASS (A3)
Focus Mitts- 3-3 Minute Rounds- Basic combinations, plus sprawls, followed by 3 push ups in every round.
Vision Drill: groups of 3; Round one- make the appropriate jab, cross, hook or uppercut while third person holds up a hand; striker must call out the hand motion.
Round 2- make the appropriate combination called by the pad holder while third person holds up a hand, striker must call out the hand motion
2 Opponent- Knife and Stick- various angles and distance
Drill- defender; eyes closed, 2 Opponent- Knife and Stick- various angles and distance

BEGINNER (A3)
Elbows 1-3
DRILL:
Grp 2, Striker, Padholder. Both positioned at one end of room. Striker neutral, eyes closed. Padholder cues with tap for elbow. Striker sends 1-3 elbows (progress number) then runs to end of gym and back to reset.

Knees w/ Clinch
DRILL:
Same as above, but during run, padholder transitions hold for knees, striker sends 3 knees upon return before resetting.

Choke Rear
DRILL-FINAL:
Same as above, but padholder/attacker can cue for elbows or choke.

DRILL:
Grp 2. Alternating Striker/Defender. Designate partner to go first. Partners take turns attacking with Adv. Kick and defending with either defense.

Hair Grabs (Front, Side, Rear)
DRILL:
Same as above, but designate Attacker/Defender. Rotate partner groups to roam and attack the other ATTACKERS sending Adv Kicks. Attackers defend and return to partner.

FINAL: Trigger Sparring
Grps 2, fight gear on. One person begins as attacker. Defender begins eyes closed, neutral. Attacker can “grab” (will need to hook head versus grab due to gloves) and begin punching to begin sparring round. Upon being grabbed defender can react and defend. Quick rounds, 10-15seconds. Switch attacker each round.

360 – include counterattacks

Drill: 2 attackers; defender’s eyes are closed; on verbal signal, the defender opens his eyes and either makes Front Kick Vertical Target/Knee combination or defends 360 and counterattacks; in either case, the defender must then spin to avoid a 2nd attacker

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A3)

Drill: Tabatta Ground and Pound- 4 Rounds of 20 seconds, 10 seconds rest between rounds.

Defensive Front Kick

-Defensive front Kick followed by counter attacks

Drill: Groups of 2, 2 large shields; striker; non- stop strikes from mount position, pad holder gives a verbal signal “Hey!” and starts to walk towards striker, striker; quickly stands, makes a Defensive Front Kick and continues with counter attacks until pad holder calls “time!”, Striker then gets back to working the pad from mount position.

Outside Defense 1-3 Review

Hairgrab from the Front

Drill: eyes closed, hair grab OR verbal signal and defend wild punch

Bearhug Front Arms Caught

Drill: as above, add in bearhug

 

ADVANCED CLASS (A3)
