Drill: Curved kick shield holder lines up on one end of the mat, defender on the other. Attacker throws 20 G&P strikes and runs to defender. Defender is getting up and down properly. If attacker reaches them on the ground, they perform front kick from the ground, get up, and 10 hand combatives standing. If attacker reaches them as they stand, only hand combatives. Two minute round and switch.

Round 1: Basic combinations 1-4 + review retreating punches from Level 1
Round 2: Add combo #8 (rear uppercut/lead hook/cross)
Round 3: On mitt holder's call of "RETREAT" Striker throws a retreating 8. (Hands and feet should move together on this combination; rear leg steps back as rear uppercut lands, etc.)
Headlock from the Side

Outside Defense #5
Drill: Partners. Attacker with curved kick shield at one end of the mat, throws 20 G&P strikes, then sprints to partner who is waiting with eyes closed and attacks partner with Headlock from the Side or verbal cue for Outside Defense #5.

ADVANCED CLASS (C3)
Jumping Front Kick
Jumping Side Kick
Drill: 4 minute interval round. Partners alternate all-out sprint combatives every 15 seconds. When instructor calls "SWITCH!" partners must immediately switch pads and other person begins striking.
1st 15 second interval: Hand combatives (switch)
2nd 15 second interval: Jumping Front Kick (switch)
3rd 15 second interval: Jumping Side Kick (switch)
4th 15 second interval: 2 punches and a sprawl (switch)

Drill: as the defender makes Choke from Behind, the attacker tries to grab; the defender makes a Basic Takedown Defense, and continues with Counterattacks. Be sure this is done safely and slowly, especially at the beginning of the dill!

Drill: Groups of 3. 1 striker, 1 attacker, 1 focus mitt holder. Striker and focus mitt holder free work (striker bare handed). Attacker randomly grabs striker's hair from side or rear. Striker defends, then returns to pad work.

ADVANCED CLASS (C3)
Thai Pads from opposite stance: Round 1 - From regular stance, strikers throw any combos that require a switch kick (2K, 4K, etc.). Round 2 - Strikers throw those same combinations, but deliver a cross or uppercut instead of a kick. Round 3 - Same lead combinations, but after the switch strikers deliver combo 6 or 8 immediately from their switch stance.

Drill: 1 attacker, 1 defender. Defender, eyes shut. Attacker delivers either basic headlock from the side, spinning inward, or neck break attack. Defender must recognize attack and defend appropriately.

Drill: Combos 6 or 7 or shoot for a double leg takedown

Drill: pad holder calls combo 6 0r 7 or pad holder shoots for a double leg takedown and puncher defends

Knife - Downward Stab (emphasize the attacker trying to free the arm)

Drill: A/B drill. Group A attacks, Group B defends. Defenders stand in passive stance with eyes shut. Group A either chokes from behind or jostles defenders from the front before throwing an outside looping attack. Safety Note: Defender’s eye must open BEFORE winding up for the strike.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C3)
Defensive Back Kick with a Spin
Focus Mitts & Belly Pads: Free work focus mitt combinations, when pad holder calls for “Kick!” striker throws defensive back kick with a spin.
Ground – side mount position and strikes
Ground – side mount to full mount
Ground – arm lock from side (Americana)
Drill: King of the Hill. Select 1 person to be “King of the hill” for every 5 people in class. Kings start on their back. Challengers start in side mount. Both count down (3, 2, 1, GO!). Challenger’s goal is to either get to full mount or submit King with arm lock from side. King’s goal is to either get to get to half guard, full guard, or sweep challenger. Winner stays as King and a new challenger begins the drill again. Note: New challenger should get the drill started as soon as possible and not let the current King have much rest.
ADVANCED CLASS (C3)

Drill: Roving attacker. Select 1 out of every 10 students in class to be the roving attacker. The reminder of the class free works on focus mitts. Roving attacker randomly attack strikers only with either regular headlock from the side, headlock from the side (spinning inward), or headlock from the side (neck break). Strikers must defend appropriately, finish the fight and continue with pad work.

Combos: “Jab/Cross/Rear elbow” and “Jab/Cross/Front elbow”
Ground – Back position & movement
Ground – Front kick
Ground – Standing up
Drill: non-stop Palm Heel Strikes and Elbows; when pad holder says “down!” the defender must sit down (FALL BREAK is OK if your students know it), then move and kick from ground until pad holder says “Up!” and defender must Get Up and continue striking; do 3 rounds alternating.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C3)
Thai Pads and Shinguards
Round 1: Combinations 1-4 with a kick.
Round 2: Combinations 1-4 with a kick. Pad holder can throw the low round kick to striker. Striker defends using the shin block.
Round 3: Puke round! 30 seconds power punches Left/Right combination. 30 seconds 2 round kicks right, 2 round kicks left. 30 seconds 2 punches and push-up. 30 seconds speed punches.

Drill: Circle of Death. Break class into small groups of 3 or 4. 1 defender, everyone else is an attacker. Defender stands in neutral with eyes closed. Attackers can apply Bearhug from the Front, Arms Free OR Bearhug from the Front, Lifting OR any Level 1 self defense technique.

ADVANCED CLASS (C3)
General Strikes to a kick shield
Drill: pile of pads in the middle of the room; students must crawl get a pad; if they don’t get a pad they are striking non-stop until the drill resets (make it tiring!)
Sweep with Heel Kick
Long Gun from Behind touching (both sides)
Gun from Behind (touching)- Looking over left shoulder
Drill: Non-stop strikes on pad, defend Long Gun from Behind touching or Gun from behind touching.

BEGINNER CLASS (A2)

Drill: Follow the Leader with footwork

Round Kick (emphasize forward leg with step or switch feet)

Combination: Left/Right/Right/Left Round Kick

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C2)
Drill: A/B Drill
Ground- Guard Reversal
Ground- Elbow escape (Quick Review)
Flow Drill: Guard Reversal to Elbow Knee Escape- Groups of 2; start from mount, elbow to knee escape, guard reversal, now the person on the bottom does the same series of moves. Repeat!
Reverse Headlock Standing
Drill: Groups of 3; defender; Strikes from the mount, 2nd person safely tackles defender off the pad, mounts, defender; makes elbow escape and transitions to guard, from there makes guard reversal, stands up, 3rd person then immediately attacks with Reverse Headlock, defender makes a strong defense and Resets.

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C2)

Warm up with Level 1,2 & 3 techniques
2 Front Kicks with a Switch
2 Straight knees with a Switch
Knife – off angle upward stab (live and dead side)
Knife – off angle downward stab (live and dead side)
Drill: Groups of 4-5; one defender, 10 Burpees, 30 seconds non-stop strikes any Level 1, 2 & 3, plus Knife.

BEGINNER CLASS (A3)

Movement - shuffle away to the right

Movement - step and pivot left

Straight Punches - introduce focus mitts

Combo: Left/Right/shuffle away to the right OR step and pivot left

Elbow #1

Combo: Left/Right/Right Elbow

Wrist Releases (same side arm only)

360 Defense

Drill: attacker grabs wrist; defender defends; attacker SOMETIMES follows with 360, sometimes backs away

 

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (C3)

Hook Punch - work various distances

Hook Punch Defense (if no time, review 360)

Defense v. Low Round Kick (absorb)

Defense v. Front Kick (redirect)

Drill: one attack one defend with leg kicks only (slow, then faster)

Sparring: hands only with straights and hook punches, and front kick to the groin

Sparring: hands only, with straights, hooks, front kicks to the groin, and low round kicks

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C3)

Spinning Outside Slap Kick

Round Kick - work on high kick

General Defense v. Medium Round Kick

Sliding Defense v. High Round Kick

Gun from Behind, Touching both sides, various angles

Wrist Releases - make wrist releases part of the warm up

Drill: pad holder pushes from behind; defender gives Elbow #3 (on either side) then turns and makes Straight Punches; if desired, included Knees.

Drill: either bear hug, try to stop the Liftinging by basing out

Focus Mitts: Practice Cross from opposite stance; then practice starting in regular stance, making a quick switch, and throwing a Cross from the opposite stance. The switch creates a new angle, or simulates feet switching because of uneven ground, obstacles, etc.

Focus Mitts: Left/Right combination/switch feet/Cross from Opposite Stance

Knife - Kick v. Knife

Knife - Downward Stab

Drill: eyes closed, on command, open eyes, recognize distance, and Kick or make Downward Stab defense
