Drill: Groups of 3: A/B/C. A holds pad for B, calling out any number 1-10. B throws that number of hand combatives, either straight punches or Hammerfist Forward. C is a roaming attacker and can tap any B from behind with pad. B throws Elbow 4, turns and follows up with 4 knees, before returning to resume hand combatives on A.

Choke from the Side
Drill: Same as above, except C can also drop pad and apply Choke from the Side.
Intermediate (D3)
Side Kick (with and without advance)
Drill: Side Kick Competition! Have 2-4 of the largest people in class holding the curved kick shield with the rest of the students divided evenly into lines in front of them. Everyone tries to get the pad holder to have to move back with Advancing Side Kick. Rotate the big guys in for a couple of tries as well.
Drill: Groups of 3. A/B/C. A’s are holding for B’s, 10 straight punches, 10 FKG, 5 round kicks right, 5 round kicks left, 5 sprawls into a knee. Repeat. C’s can verbal cue for Side Kick or Side Kick with Advance depending on distance, followed up by 4 hand combatives.
Outside Defense 1-5
Drill: Groups of 3. Defender in the middle in neutral position. Attackers make a verbal cue and throw a punch from the front, slightly off angle, or from the side. Defender performs one of the Outside Defense 1-5 with follow up combatives before returning to neutral. Emphasize unpredictable timing between attackers making punch.

Spinning Outside Slap Kick
Drill: Focus Mitts: Combinations 1-10. Add Spinning Outside Slap Kick to any combination ending in a hook (3, 7, 9)
General Def. v. Medium to High Kicks
Gun – from behind at a distance
Drill: Groups of 3. A/B/C. A is attacking B with Medium to High Kicks. B defends with General Defense v. Medium to High Kicks. C is a roaming attacker and can attack any B at any time with Gun – from behind at a distance.

Ground - Getting Up (from side position)
Circle-of-Death: 1 defender, rest of class attacks. All attackers have kick shields. Defender starts in side position on the ground, attackers surround defender. Defender delivers side kick from the ground to kick shield. Once attackers receive 2-3 kicks on their pad (depending on class size), they must yield and give space. Once all attackers have yielded, defender gets up as quickly as possible ready to continue the fight.

Drill: Working in pairs. 1 attacker, 1 defender. Defender stands in passive stance, eyes shut. Attacker verbally/physically gets defender's attention and holds a kick shield for a side kick or a tomb stone for a heel kick (making sure to follow up with a few combatives). During the drill instructor yells "Down!". Defender fallbreaks and attacker immediately gets into mount. Defender must get out of mount as quickly as possible, attackers may throw light palm heel strikes to distract defenders.

ADVANCED CLASS (D3)

BEGINNER CLASS (B3)

Wrist Releases - do "elbow to elbow" and "hitchhike out" techniques as part of warm up

Drill: pad holder jabs pad at partner; partner covers up, then makes left/right combo

Knees - with and without controlling with arms

Drill: as above, but add a knee after the punches

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (D3)

Combo: Right/Left Hook and Left Hook/Right

Focus Mitt Drill: pad holder strikes side of head with either pad; partner covers against the strike and counters with Right/Left Hook or Left Hook/Right

Bearhug - review principle of space and base; if your students are advanced enough, review Bearhug Front and Bearhug Behind (you might not have time for a complete lesson, so simply reviewing space and base will be enough)

A/B Drill: Group A attacks, Group B defends. Defenders in passive stance eye's shut. Attackers either bump defenders with a tombstone and hold for elbow an elbow (4-7) or choke defenders from behind and push. Defenders should finish strong with combatives before resetting.

Bearhug Behind (finger leverage)
Drill: Group of 3. 1 attacker, 1 striker, 1 defender. Defender in fighting stance, striker throws single outside straight punches. At any time attacker may bearhug striker from behind (arms free). Striker must defend (leverage on finger), finish with combatives, then resume throwing outside straight punches at defender.

Disorientation Drill: Group of 3. 1 focus mitt holder, 1 striker, 1 attacker. Focus mitt holder and striker free work. When instructor yells, "Go!" striker spins in place as fast as possible to get dizzy. When instructor yells "Fight!" striker immediately returns to pad work. Attacker may present striker  with gun from behind at a distance at any time during the drill.

Choke from the Front, 2 handed pluck
Drill: A/B Drill: Non-compliant Attacker. A's are roaming attackers and can attack any B with Choke from the Front. B defends and after allowing them to throw a 3-4 follow-up combatives, A can take a step back and then make haymaker or show takedown as secondary attack. B must be prepared for the potential follow-up attack.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (D2)
Round 1: Target recognition on curved kick shield: all basic combatives, 2 punches, Front Kick Groin, Front Kick to a Vertical Target, Round kick on either side, knee. Pad holder can hold for any of the above in any order, just not the same combative twice in a row.
Round 2: Same as Round 1 + on instructor's call of "DOWN" pad holder drops pad and Striker mounts for Ground and Pound until instructor calls "TIME" at which point students return back to the drill.
Drill: Pile of Pads — half as many pads as people in the middle of the room; some pads for kicking, some for punching. Students are at either end of the room; when the instructor says “Go!” the students must CRAB WALK to the pads. If they get a pad, they hold it for punches or kicks. If they do not get a pad, they must strike non stop until the instructor calls “time!” Do 4-5 rounds.
Ground – trap and roll
Ground – defense v. choke full mount
Ground – defense v. headlock full mount
Drill: Groups of 3: A mounts B for any of the defenses reviewed in class. B makes defense, gets up, and goes to C, who is holding curved kick shield. C is keeping track of how long it took for B to improve position and holds pad for nonstop hand combatives for that amount of time.

ADVANCED CLASS (D2)
Partner and Kick Shield
1 2 minute round of target recognition each
Combative Stations: Multiple Lines of 5 or so depending on numbers (add G&P to a pad if you need to even the group numbers up). One minute at each station, non-stop, as hard and fast as possible. 10 seconds to transition to next pad. After full rotation, pad holders and strikers switch roles.
Round 1 Stations:
1) Straight punches
2) FGK
3) 2 round kicks right, 2 round kicks left
4) Two Straight Knees with a Switch
5) Two Front Kicks with a Switch for Advanced
Round 2 Stations:
1) 2 palms to an elbow
2) FGK to Knee
3) Forward Hammerfists
4) FKVT to Round Kick
5) 2 punches to a burpee
Gun from the Front, Pushing into Stomach
Drill: Circle of Death: Groups of 4-5. 1 person in center. Everyone else is an attacker. All attacks from levels 1-3 + Gun from the Front Pushing Into Stomach

BEGINNER CLASS (B2)
Basic Takedown Defense (changing height, moving feet)
Knees (regular and round)
Control Position Drill: 1 kick shield holder, 1 striker. Striker keeps kick shield holder in control position and delivers hard knees constantly. Pad holder moves in random directions (including level changes) trying to throw striker off balance.
Choke from the Front with a Push
A/B Drill: Group A attacks, group B defends. All defenders in a line, eyes shut, passive stance. Attackers either choke from the front with a push or grab a kick shield and "chest bump" defenders. Once defenders complete skills with combatives, they should reset for the next attack.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (D2)
Bobbing/Weaving/Slipping
Defense vs. High Round Kick (reflexive)
Defense vs. High Round Kick (2 & 3 points of contact)
Defense vs. High Round Kick (covering)
Sparring Drill: 1-for-1, partners throw any combination 1-4 with a high round kick. Receiver slips, bobs, and weaves punches and uses appropriate defense for kick.
Free Sparring: 15 second rounds, 10 seconds to find a new partner. Goal is to land as many strikes in 15 seconds as possible. Safety Note: Treat this sparring like shoulder tag. The point is to land strikes not deliver power shots.

ADVANCED CLASS (D2)
2 Straight Knees with a Switch
Gun from the Side, Behind the Arm
Gun from Behind (touching)
Drill: Roaming Gunman. Groups of 2. 1 striker, 1 kick shield holder. Striker delivers combative combinations to pad including 2 straight knees with a switch. 1 set of partners are designated gunmen and randomly attack any striker with either gun technique listed above.

Reverse Headlock Standing
Drill: Working in pairs. 1 attacker, 1 defender. Attacker throws multiple hook punches randomly altering attacking arm, defender uses either extended or covering defenses. At any point attacker may clinch defender (throwing light knees to the body) in order to transition to reverse headlock standing. Once defender completes skill and finishes with combatives, attacker should go right back to throwing random hooks.

ADVANCED CLASS (D2)
Axe Kick
Gun from the Side, in Front of the Arm
Gun from the Front, Pushing into Stomach
Circle-of-Death: 1 defender, rest of class attacks. All lower level unarmed self-defenses, Gun from the side (front of arm), Gun from front (pushing).

BEGINNER CLASS (B2)

Left/Right Combination

Drill: partner calls out even numbers, make that many punches (most numbers are 2 and 4, sometimes call out higher numbers)

360 Defense (include clinch position and knees after the defense)

Headlock From Behind

Drill: attacker makes Headlock From Behind; defender makes the defense; attacker steps back, then steps forward with 360 attack; defender defends, then establishes Basic Clinch position and gives knees.
