Defense v. Hook Punch (covering)

Drill: cover v. Right Hook, counter with Right Hook

Drill: cover v. Left Hook, counter with Left Hook

Defense v. Front Kick (stopping)

Drill: attacker holds focus mitts; attacker makes left hook, right hook, or front kick to the groin; defender defends and counterattacks

 

ADVANCED CLASS (A1)

Drill: cover v. Right Hook, counter with Right Hook

Drill: cover v. Left Hook, counter with Left Hook

ADVANCED CLASS (A1)

Focus Mitts: Combo #3, then bob & weave v. attacker's right hook, and shoot in for double leg takedown

Headlock from the Side (review)

Headlock from the Side, Spinning Inward

Drill: reaction drill, try to make the appropriate headlock technique based on the attack. If the attacker simply holds you, make the regular headlock technique. If the attacker pulls you forward a lot, then spin inward.

 

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)

Shadow Boxing - 4 punches moving forward, 4 punches moving backward

Straight Punches

Drill: pad holder holds the pad; on the instructor's command, the puncher must drive the pad holder across the room using straight punches.

Ground - Back Position and Movement

Ground - Getting Up; practice getting up on both sides!

Drill: "Up - Down" -- All students shadow box. When the instructor says "Down!" the students sit down SAFELY (no break falls) but quickly and get into Back Position.  The students move around, switching legs as they move. When the instructor says "Up!" the get up quickly and continue shadow boxing.

Drill: review basic self defense, include head butts in counterattacks when possible (slow work for safety!)

We're happy to announce that we have scheduled another Wingate Institute certification!  Last year's event was a huge success. Wingate considered our group to be of the highest caliber, and we'd like to raise the bar even higher!

Add an instructor diploma from Wingate Institute, the civilian home of Krav Maga in Israel, to your list of achievements!

If you are a brown belt (level 5), or close to testing, consider coming with us.  Training starts Sunday, May 5 at 1300 and ends Friday, May 10 and 1800.

The cost includes tuition, room, and board for the entire stay.

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)

Straight Punches

Left/Right Combo - more advanced students, work right/left combo from opposite stance

Sprawl

Drill: Left/Right combo; sprawl on instructor command; 2 rounds of 1 minute, alternating; more advanced students, switch stance after each sprawl.

Elbow #3

Hammerfist to the Side -- emphasize a hammerfist that is more to the back

Drill: eyes closed; attacker holds a pad; attacker touches defender from behind at various distances; defender opens his eyes and must recognize the distance and give either an elbow or a hammerfist.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS

Combo #8 (right uppercut/left hook/right cross); then add right elbow

Bearhug Front Arms Free - neck leverage

Bearhug Variation -- one arm free; try both neck leverage with one arm AND/OR groin strikes with the trapped hand

Drill: eyes closed, any bearhug variation from the front

 

ADVANCED CLASS

Overhand Right

Combo: left uppercut/overhand right

Combo: right uppercut/overhand right

Gun Behind, Touching, Attacker very close (hugging technique) -- more advanced students try it against a left handed gunman!

 

 

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)
Palm Strikes
Kick Vertical Target - after the basic lesson, practice giving the kick to slight angles on either side.
Knees
Combo: Front Kick Vertical Target/Knee (same leg)
Choke Front (2 handed) -- experienced students should practice the defense against an attacker whose elbows are bent. The elbows can be bent downwards or to the side.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A1)
After Warm up, review all Level 1 and 2 self defense quickly
Focus Mitts: Left/Right
Headbutt Forward
Combo: Left/Right/Headbutt
Drill: eyes closed, any self defense from Level 1 or 2 -- try to include headbutts in counterattacks BUT ONLY WHEN POSSIBLE (learn when to give a headbutt)
Sparring: slow fighting, hands only; less experienced students should make straight punches only; more experienced students should fight from an opposite stance.

ADVANCED CLASS (A1)
Thai Pads: combos 1-4; HOWEVER, before the kick, the striker should pivot to the side. For example, for combination #1, the striker makes a left jab, then steps to the left and pivots, then makes a right round kick.

Focus Mitts: Combo # 6 (right cross/left hook/right cross)
Focus Mitts: Combo # 7 (left hook/right cross/left hook)
Forward Roll
Drill: attacker with pad stands behind defender; attacker pushes defender, who makes a forward roll and turns to face attacker; attacker advances holding for front kick to the groin, and defender kicks. TO MADE THE DRILL HARDER, have the attacker hold for either straight punches or groin kick. TO MAKE THE DRILL EVEN HARDER, make the defender do forward roll over a small object.

ADVANCED CLASS (A1)
Ax Kick
Defend Ax Kick - similar to defending round kick (2 pts of contact), but at a more upward angle; roll the kick off to the side as it makes contact.

360 -- incorporate counters either simultaneously (from Level 2) or after the defense if you want to keep it simple.
Drill: Monkey in the Middle -- groups of 4; one person is in the middle, two people have pads, the fourth person waits; the person in the middle makes hammerfists and other combatives to the pads; the fourth person yells and attacks with one 369 attack; the defender defends, counters, and goes back to the pads.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A1)

Bearhug Front, Neck Leverage - by the end of the lesson, the attacker should put his head on either side of the body, and also in the middle of the defender's chest. The defender must us variations to make the defense.
Groundwork: Kicking off from the Guard
Drill: -- groups of 3 people, 1 pad; defender does Kick Off from Guard; both the attacker and defender get up as soon as possible. The attacker makes a Bearhug from the Front, and the defender must defend, then strike focus mitts until the pad holder calls time; repeat the drill several times.

ADVANCED CLASS (A1)
Sparring: 2 minutes standing, 2 minutes ground, 3 rounds.

Drill: pushed from behind, forward roll (turn to face threat)
