Congratulations to Nicola Provolo of Krav Maga Verona! Nicola successfully completed his 2nd Degree Black Belt test. Nicola finished the test despite receiving an injury to his leg -- a torn calf muscle that might require serious therapy. However, Nicola continued is test and finished very well. Good job, Nicola!

Drill: groups of 3; punches and elbows to a pad; when a second pad holder approaches, turn to the new attacker and make Defensive Front Kick, then continue striking that pad

Side Kick (review)
Plucking/Rowing Defense v. Medium Side Kick
Side Kick v. Knife Attack from the Side (just make a side kick and create distance)
Knife v. Downward Stab
Use Common Objects to Defend Knife
Drill: eyes closed, common objects around room; on command, open eyes and either defend or try to access common objects, if available.

Hip Throw - hook under arm; if experienced, practice opposite side
Sparring Drill: one attack/one defender; defender try to incorporate Hip Throw into counterattacks

Note: if experienced, make the slashes very straight, almost like straight stab.

Beginner (A2)
Muay Thai Pad- Pad holder calls out number of straight punches for striker, (i.e. 2, 4, 6 etc.)

Combination #2- Left/Right/Left/Right Round Kick

Advanced (A2)

Round 2- 30 sec. non-stop punches, 30 sec. non-stop Front Kick- Groin- 10 sec. rest
Round 3- 30 sec. non-stop punches, 30 sec. non-stop Front kick- Groin, 30 sec. Sprawl/get up/4 Knees.
Chops (inside and outside)
Plucking/Rowing Def. v. Side Kick
Knife- kick from distance
Drill: defend against a Side kick, or Knife form distance- Eyes closed

Beginner (A2)
Punches- L/Right Combo
Drill: partner calls out punching combinations ("Left, Left, Right!", Right, Left, Right!", etc.)
Inside Defense
Choke form the Front with a push- work both sides
Drill: defender- eyes closed, defend choke from the Front with a push with various angles or on attackers gives a verbal signal make Inside Defense.

Intermediate (A2)
Review basic strikes- Punches, Hammerfist etc.
Drill: 3- 45 second rounds of non-stop AGGRESSIVE strikes, 15 second active recovery between rounds- strikes at moderate speed and power.
Defensive Front Kick
Knees- Thai Clinch (quick review)
Drill: Defensive Front Kick, Thai Clinch- Non-stop Knees until pad holder calls "time"
Inside Defense v. Left/Right
Bearhug from behind Arms Free
Drill: defend Bearhug or Inside Defense v. Left/Right, eyes closed

Advanced (A2)
Conditioning Drill:
Left/Right/Right Elbow x 10
10 Push Ups
10 Round Kicks (5 each side)
10 Sit up/ Stand up (partner assist)

4 Rounds as fast as possible, then switch with your partner. See which pair can finish first!

Knife- kick from distance
Knife- defense v. downward stab
Knife- defense v. upward stab
Drill: Groups of 4-5, one large shield; defender; non-stop strikes, attackers; non-stop attacks (any level 1&2 techniques, include Knife attacks)

Choke from the Side
Drill- Eyes Closed, defender either gets choked and has to defend or gets popped with a pad and makes palm heel strikes to the pad until the pad holder calls time.

INTERMEDIATE (A1)

Focus Mitt Combination: Right Cross, Left Hook, Right Uppercut
Kick off from the Guard
Choke from the side on the Ground- show kicking first, similar to kick off from guard
Choke from the side on the Ground- Arm Bar
Drill: Choke from the Side- if the attacker stays close, use arm bar; if you can make space, kick away; get up and work focus mitts (use today's combo) then drop and restart.

ADVANCED (A1)
Light Sparring- one attack, one defend, short combinations
Light Sparring- both attack, both defend, light contact
Gun- from front against a left-handed gunman, use both the regular and the 2- handed cupping technique

Beginner (A1)
Punches- Straight
Front Kick Vertical Target
Choke from Behind
Ground- Front Kick
Ground- Getting Up
Drill: Groups of 3; defender starts on the ground, Combo: Kick, get up, Front kick vertical target followed by non-stop strikes, attacker- choke from behind. Repeat.

Intermediate (A1)
Headbutt Forward
Front Kick with Advance
Combination: Front Kick with Advance, L/R Palm Heel Strike, Headbutt Forward
Bearhug Front Arms Caught
Bearhug Front Arms Free (Space)
Drill: Groups of 2, Small pad; Defender; eyes closed, attacker; Makes either Bearhug from Front (Arms Caught/Arms Free), or gives a verbal signal, and holds for the above combination.

Advance (A1)
Mouth of Hand Punch
Axe Kick
Focus Mitts- 3-2 Minute Rounds;
Round 1- Basic Combinations- include: Axe Kick, and Mouth of Hand Punch.
Round 2- Add Sprawls
Round 3- After every sprawl switch fighting stance.
Gun from Front
Gun from Behind (touching)
Drill: Groups of 3, Focus Mitts; Pad holder calls out combinations, attacker, Gun from Front & Behind, defender, fast, aggressive defense, and back to working the Mitts.

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)
Straight Punches - use focus mitts
Left/Right Combination
360
Drill: Left/Right/360 defense v. right or left strike/Left/Right
Front Kick Vertical Target
Drill: pads in the middle, all students start at the edge of the room; on command, crawl to get a pad; if you get a pad, hold for Front Kick Vertical Target; if you don't get a pad, kick non-stop! Do several rounds, make them tired!
Choke from the Front - end with Front Kick Vertical Target

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A1)
Hook Punch
Drill - practice hooks at various distances from very close to long range. NOTE - for long range hook punches, the pad holder should give a good angle with the focus mitt to prevent injury.
Hammerfist Downward (review)
Headlock from the Side

ADVANCED CLASS (A1)
Drill: flurries of strikes to pad, fall break, kick and get up
Gun from the Front
Gun to the Side of the Head
Knife Upward Stab
Drill: any of these weapon attacks
