Round Kick - practice with both legs

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A2)

Thai Pads - 3 rounds of 3 minutes

Ground - foot grab; stripping

Ground - foot grab spinning inward

Ground - foot grab spinning outward

Ground - hip escape from side control

Drill: defender starts on ground; attacker grabs foot; defender tries to make foot grab defenses; if he fails, the attacker pulls leg to the side and takes side control; defender makes hip escape

 

ADVANCED CLASS (A2)

Ground - def. v. full mount, wrists pinned (snow angel)

Knife Downward Stab (v. left and right handed attacker); react from a kneeling position.

Gun Front from a Kneeling Position

Drill: groups of three; defender defends against full mount, wrists pinned; as he is getting up, he must defend against gun or knife

 

Beginner (A2)
Movement- Fighting stance, Moving Forward, Left, Right, Back (drill both both sides)
Punches- Left/Right Combination
Drill: "Go" & "Time"- On Instructors signal "Go", non-stop punches, on Instructors signal "Stop", off the pad, move around
Choke from Behind with a Push
Headlock from Behind
Drill: Groups of 3; defender works straight punch combinations on pad (i.e.: R/R/L, L/R/L. etc..) attacker; makes Headlock from Behind or Choke from Behind with a Push.

Intermediate (A2)
Defensive Front Kick
Combination: Defensive Front Kick/Left/Right Combination/ 2 Knees
Inside Defense v. Left/Right
Bearhug from Behind Arms Free
Drill: Defender; Eyes closed, attacker; makes a Bearhug from Behind Arms Free or gives a verbal signal, makes Left/Right combination
Ground- Escape form Guard (gouge and stack)
Drill: Groups of 3, One large pad; defender; escape from Guard, stands up, pad holder walks towards defender, defender makes a Defensive Front Kick followed by non stop punches until pad holder calls "Time". Reset!

Advanced (A2)
Drill: Striking Transition- non stop striking drill; the attacker starts in a standing position, striking on pad; then he drops to his knees, then to his back, then again back to his knees, then standing.. but never stops striking! Alternate with partner, three rounds each
Knife- defense v. downward stab- (work both sides & different angles)
Ground- Def. v. Full Mount, hands pinned
Drill: Groups of 3 and a small pad; Defender starts on the ground and defends against Full Mount, Hands pinned, stands up, non stop strikes on pad, attacker; gives a verbal signal, Knife- downward stab- (either side, off angle)

Beginner (A2)
Straight Punch with Advance

Choke from the front with a push
Drill: Eyes closed; verbal warning followed by punch or no verbal warning, choke from the front with a push

Intermediate (A2)
Thai Pads- 2- 5 Minute Rounds- Basic Combinations, include- Knees, sprawls & elbows.
(Work them hard!)
Defense v. High Round Kick (2&3 Points)
Defense v. High Round Kick (reflexive)
Defense v. High Round Kick (covering)
Defense v. High Round Kick (redirect)
Drill: Leg sparring, add straight punches after a few rounds

Advanced (A2)
Knife Attacks!
Downwards stab, Upward stab, straight stab, forward/backward slash (work both sides and off angle)
Drill: knife attacks from any angle

BEGINNER (A2)
Movement/Shadow Boxing
Advancing Straight Punch
Drill: Follow the Leader
Grps of 2. Padholder holds for straight punches. Striker can send strikes at will. Padholder can also create distance, requiring striker to advance to strike.
Inside Defense
Front Choke (1 Hand Pluck)

Final Drill:
Grps of 2. Attacker primarily sends straight punches, for inside defense. Sometimes, instead of stepping back, apply front choke. After defense, attacker calls out number of burpees to be performed before going back to straight punch/inside defense.

INTERMEDIATE (A2)
Warmup Drill: Alternating Ground & Pound While Mounted
Ground - Trap, Buck & Roll
Ground - Foot Grab Strip
Ground - Spin Inward
Ground - Spin Outward
Ground - Guard Escape (gouge and stack)

Final Drill:
Defender lying on ground, eyes closed. Attacker can either grab foot and pull/spin, or jump into mount. If mounted, defender must T/B/R then escape the attacker’s guard.

ADVANCED (A2)
Warmup: Forward/Backward Rolls
Review - Rear Fall Break
Sweep with Forward Kick
Review - Gun Front
Advanced Gun - from kneeling position

Final Drill:
Defender standing, eyes closed. Attacker with gun in waist band sweeps defender to ground and draws gun. Defender performs gun defense from knees. After disarm, defender takes gun and looks to attack, attacker assumes defender position. Note: For more advanced students, have the attacker present the gun from off-angles as well.

BEGINNER CLASS (A2)

Drill: Belt Drill

Knees - use both the self defense position and the muay thai clinch

Drill: groups of three; defender starts in side control; make Americana, then disengage and get up and punch pad; person on ground gets up and makes Bearhug from Behind, Arms Free

 

ADVANCED CLASS (A2)

Focus Mitts: Left/Right/slip left punch/Right/Liver Shot/

Knife - Downward Stab

Knife - Forward Slash

Knife - Downward Stab and Forward Slash v. Left or Right Handed Attacker

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A2)

Thai Pads: Combos #3 & #4 with sprawl after round kick

Inside Defense v. Left/Right

Defense v. High Round Kick (2 or 3 points of contact) - include counterattacks

Drill: attacker makes left/right OR high round kick; defender makes the appropriate defense

 

ADVANCED CLASS (A2)

Focus Mitts: Left/Right/Left Uppercut/Right/Left Hook/pivot left/Right

Knife - Kick From Distance

Knife - Upward Stab; after teaching control and disarm, include training with a non-compliant attacker who tries to break free; if the attacker breaks free, the defender must disengage and look for a shield, escape, or make another knife defense.

Drill: defenders eyes are closed, attacker gives a verbal signal and attacks from various distances; defender must decide to kick or make the hand defense

1-1 Minute Round- Put Part I & II together in a relatively fast, non stop continuos pattern.

Beginner (A2)
Palm Heel Strikes
Drill: Groups of 2 (partners should be about same size and hight), Small shield; Non stop Palm Heel Strikes, on instructors signal "GO", striker Fireman or Piggy back carries pad holder to the opposite end of the room and back and continues working the pad.
Choke from the Front (1-handed)
Choke from the Front with a Push
Choke from the Back with a Push
Drill: Groups of 4-5; 90 seconds, One defender, non stop attacks.
Intermediate (A2)
Strikes from mount position
Inside Slap Kicks (both sides)
Drill: A/B Drill- Strikes from the mount position on one end, and Inside Slap Kicks on the other.
Reverse Headlock Standing
Ground- Trap and Roll (quick review)
Drill: Groups of 3; defender; Strikes from the mount, 2nd person safely tackles defender off the pad and mounts them, defender; escapes the mount and gets up, 3rd person, then immediately makes Reverse Headlock. Repeat.
Advanced (A2)
2 Jumping Front Kicks
Jumping side Kick
Jumping Round Kick
Knife- Defense v. Downward Stab (work both sides, and off angle)
Knife- Defense v. Upward Stab (work both sides, and off angle)
Drill: defender eyes closed, attacker gives a verbal signal- Knife- upward and downward stab, include off hand and off angle.

Drill: partner moves around, offering target for Front Kick or Round Kick

Light Sparring: 4 rounds of 2 minutes, stand up and clinch only

Light Sparring: 4 rounds of 2 minutes, ground with light striking only
