Warmup Drill: Movement Maze
Set a course of cones throughout the room. Students stand facing forward at the "start" and must navigate from cone to cone while always facing forward. Course should be set so students must move forward, back, left, right in fighting stance.
Straight Punch w/ Retreat
Elbows 4-7
Headlock from Behind
*In addition to the regular partner practice, incorporate a portion allowing students to try to intercept the headlock before it gets locked in. Attacker should attempt to be sneaky. Start with the defender's eyes open. Add some with eyes closed.

Final Drill:
Defender sends retreating punches. Additional attacker can approach and cue for rear elbow (suggest 4 or 3) for safety, or can attack with Rear Headlock.

Reflexive Defense vs. Front Kick
Outside Stabbing Defense vs. Front Kick

Drill: Reaction
Defender moves from kneeling to standing. Attacker can send Front kick at any point during the defender's movement requiring the appropriate, or adaptation, of the Front Kick Defenses.

Rear Choke w/ Pull

Final Drill:
Attacker applies Rear Choke w/ Pull. During defense, attacker can attempt to get out of defense and send Front Kick. Defender must defend the kick and reset.

ADVANCED (D1)
Warmup Drill: LIGHT Kicks
Padholder walks around striker cuing for various stomp kicks (front kick vertical target, side, back). Striker sends light/medium power kicks.

2 Jumping Front Kicks
2 Back Kicks w/ Switch
One Arm Shoulder Throw
Headlock Behind, attacker jumping (throw)

Final Drill:
Cue for 2 Jumping Front Kicks (as attacker is stunned by the ninja awesomeness) finish with One Arm Shoulder Throw. Can also cue rear for 2 Back Kicks w/ Switch. Finally can tactilely cue by jumping for Rear Headlock Throw.

BEGINNER CLASS (B1)

Review straight punches, groin kicks, and knees

Drill: Tabata striking (2o seconds of striking, 10 seconds of rest) for 5 rounds

Drill: either of those attacks from behind

Fall Break

Drill: combos 1-9, when pad holder calls "down" the striker must make a Fall Break, get up properly, and continue striking. NOTE: make sure there is room for all participants to Fall Break safely

Roaming Attackers can apply Choke Rear or Wrist Grab. Attackers can also apply Choke Rear while Defender is finishing Wrist Grab defense.

DRILL - FINAL:
Roaming Attackers. Attacker applies Clinch + Knees, Hair Pull, Guillotine, OR Hair Pull into Guillotine. Defend appropriately.

DRILL - Warmup: Cue & Do

Grps 2, Striker, Padholder. Padholder cues for FGK, FKVT, RHK. Striker sends appropriate kick. Perform 3, switching Striker/Padholder each round. Number of kicks per cue also increases per round, 1, 2, then 3.

Axe Kick

Sliding Defense vs. High/Medium Kicks

DRILL-ish:

Grps 2. Alternating Attacker/Defender. Attacker sends High Kick for Sliding Defense. Defender then using defense to take Attacker to the ground. Defender applies any Ground attack (mount, guard, side). Partner should use as review/experiment to figure out appropriate defense.

TRIGGER SPARRING:

Grps 2. Determine A, B. Free sparring until instructor cues A or B. The letter called sends a High Kick for Sliding Defense/Takedown then Ground sparring begins until dominant position is gained. Reset. Repeat for multiple rounds.

Focus Mitts: Combo 7

Headlock from the Side

Ground - discuss using guard to hold opponent down ("break posture") so he can't punch you. Standard position should be left arm wrapped over attacker's right arm, right arm wrapped around attacker's neck to hold him down. This also sets up "scissor sweep"

Ground - Guard Escape: when in someone's guard, work to escape the hold and posture up using bites, gouges, etc. Once postured up, punch groin and slide back, standing up

Drill: Partner A attacks with Headlock from the Side; Partner B defends; Partner A goes to ground and pulls guard; Partner B postures up and escapes using groin strikes; switch roles

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C3)

Hip Throw

Takedown: Double Leg Takedown (emphasize that lifting the attacker off his feet is good, but if you can just trip him, it's enough)

Ground - Side Control

Ground - Hip Escape from Side Control

Drill: in clinch, Partner A is either aggressively pushing forward or standing more upright; Partner B makes Hip Throw or Double Leg Takedown as appropriate and gets Side Control; Partner A escapes Side Control; switch roles

Drill: non compliant attacker -- the attacker makes Choke from the Front; the defender defends and makes one or two counterattacks; the attacker steps back, then steps forward with a right handed 360 attacker; defender makes the 360 defense and continues with counters.

Focus Mitts: 2 rounds of 2 minutes, emphasize footwork

Drill: eyes closed; attacker makes a straight punch from any angle (use Inside Defense or Outside Defense) OR either Bear Hug.

Drill: eyes closed; verbal signal, straight punch comes from various angles; defend and counter

Defense v. Front Kick to Groin (redirecting)

Sparring 2 v. 1: slow fighting 1 v. 1; at any time, the second attacker steps forward with a straight punch; the defender must use an Outside Defense, then continue fighting the new attacker; the original attacker now waits.

 

ADVANCED CLASS (C3)

Light Sparring

Body conditioning: exchange punches with partner, 4-5 body shots each

Gun from Behind

Knife Downward Stab — practice also reacting to angles from behind; to simplify the drill, have the defender look only over his left shoulder

DRILL - FINAL:

Grps 2, Striker, Padholder (Kickshield) + Roaming Attackers. Strikers work freestyle upper body strikes (Straights, Hammers, Elbows) to pad. Roaming attackers apply Sweep to Striker. Striker Fall Breaks into Ground Position. Padholder circles and moves in for Ground Front Kicks, upon backing away, Striker Getups and returns to freestyle strikes.

Grps 2, Fight gear on. Round begins with one person neutral, eyes closed. Partner cues for either Side Elbow or Hammerfist depending on distance. Striker sends appropriate strike to partner’s gloves, turns clinches and sends burst of knees (either pulling, to gloves or light to body). After releasing, free-spar for time.
