Stick- Baseball bat swing (left and right)
Drill: 2 attackers, 1 defender, constant baseball bat attacks from left or right side. No disarm during the first round, just initial defense (attacks should be non-stop and fast!). During second round, the defender should attempt to disarm, but the next attacker should make the defender feel rushed by bringing on their attack before the defender is completely ready
Beginner (A3)
Fighting stance
Movement - fighting stance moving forward, left, right, back
Partner A/B drill - one leader, one follower. Leader steps forward, back, left, or right; and the follower must keep within punching range. Instructor calls switch

Partner A/B drill with tombstone - add punches, kicks, and sprawl
360 Defense
Partner A/B drill, add roving attacker(s). Same as above, but roving attackers will attack with multiple 360 attacks to any striker in the room. After the defense, that striker becomes a new roving attacker.
Intermediate (A3)
Warm up - touching shoulders/knees. Clinch fighting/pummeling.
Bearhug - front, arms caught
Bearhug - front, arms free (with space and without space)
Drill - partner pairs, 1 tombstone per pair; with roving attackers. Defender stands with eyes closed while pad holder stages in a random location around the room. Roving attacker may attack anyone with eyes closed using a front bear hug (heavy resistance. After defender breaks free they find their pad holder and strike until pad holder calls "time." The pad holder then becomes a new roving attacker and the defender becomes the pad holder for the person that just attacked them.
Advanced (A3)
Warm up - crawls, falls, and rolls.
Review 360s - add in knives, grappling, and multiple attackers
One arm shoulder throw
Machine gun takedown
Drill - use an obstacle course if possible, including low light, blind corners, and/or multiple rooms. Defender must clear obstacle course with multiple attackers. If the attack is a wide right overhand punch or stab, counter with shoulder throw. Counter gun threats with machine gun takedown. Make sure to have plenty of room for falls.

Drill: Drill: Groups of 2; 2 Kicking shields; striker; ground and pound, attacker gives a verbal signal and attacks with Stick (overhead or dead side), defender; get up as quickly as possible, make the appropriate defense and reset.
BEGINNER CLASS (A3)

Drill: defender starts on his feet, punching non stop; the instructor yells “down!” and the defender sits down (safely and slowly for level 1!) and goes to Ground Position; pad holder moves around, and the defender moves properly to defend; the instructor yells “Go!” and the pad holder steps forward; the defender kicks and gets up, and continues punching. Repeat 3 or 4 times
Basic Takedown Defense
Choke Front (2 Hand)
Drill: attacker makes Choke from the Front; defender makes the defense; attacker reacts by training to grab the defender’s body; defender makes Basic Takedown Defense and continues with counterattacks

Groups of 2, alternating Attacker/Defender. Defend 360 plus burst of Palm Heel strikes (can send to air, or partner covers for target). Then other person attacks.
Wrist Releases (Both leverage and striking)
DRILL-FINAL:
Groups of 3, Defender Attacker 1, Attacker 2. Defender and Attacker 1 at end of gym, Defender eyes closed. Attacker 2 starts some distance from them. On instructor’s “GO!” Attacker 1 applies Wrist Grab, Attacker 2 begins approaching for attack. Defender must get out and address Attacker 2.

Focus mitt/thai pad combinations (focus mitts and belly pad recommended): Free work w/ focus mitts, instructor yells for "knees" (2 straight knees w/ a switch) and "sprawls" randomly.
General defense vs. medium-to-high round kicks
Stick - baseball bat defense
Drill: Group of 3. Same focus mitt/thai pad drill as above, but now 3rd person has a stick and yells "THREAT" randomly getting striker's attention before attacking w/ baseball bat swing.
Beginner (A3)
Movement - shadow boxing w/o punches or kicks

Knees - regular and round
Partner + kick shield: striker starts in neutral stance while their partner moves around them at any angle. On pad holder's "go," striker turns and delivers range-appropriate strikes. Work from front, side, and behind. Emphasize efficient footwork and ranging.

Drill: Start with packages in hand and eyes closed, attacker either makes a choke from front or gives a verbal signal and makes 360.
Intermediate (A3)
Focus Mitts- Hook Punch
Combination- Cross/Hook/Cross
Focus Mitts with Disturbing- Pad holder stikes partner continuously while partner covers and absorbs; when pad holder slaps mitts together, the partner makes Cross/Hook/Cross Combination, then the pad holder goes back to striking. This drill should be very fast and aggressive.
Defense v. Low Round Kick (Absorb & Shin block)

Thai pad Drill:
Groups of 3, two with thai pads; striker must make combinations while moving to keep second pad holder "lined up" so the striker deals with one threat at a time; now and then, the second pad holder jumps in and becomes the first pad holder; Black Belts do this from an opposite stance.

DRILL:
Groups of 2, Striker, Padholder. Striker stands in front of Padholder at one end of the room. Instructor yells out a number to start the round, indicating the number of straight punches to be thrown. After yelling out, Striker sends a Front Groin Kick + Clinch/2 Knees + # Straight Punches. Striker runs to opposite end of the room and back for next round.
Front Choke 2-Hand Pluck
DRILL-FINAL:
Same as above, however, after returning from run, Striker sets up neutral, eyes closed. Partner attacks with Front Choke. After defense, another running lap and reset.
INTERMEDIATE (A3)

Defensive Front Kick
DRILL/COMBO:
Groups of 2, Striker, Padholder. Striker sends Bas 3 (Use TS for strikes) then creates distance with Defensive Front Kick. Padholder can cue “BURST!” for straight punches until cued to “RESET”.
Advanced - Knife Stab Upward
DRILL - FINAL:
Groups of 2 + Roaming Attackers. Groups of 2 work the combo above. Roaming Attackers give verbal cue to get Strikers’ attention then attack with Knife.

DRILL-WARMUP:
Groups of 2, designate A/B. On “RUN!” all students run randomly around room. Instructor cues “A” or “B” indicating the Attacker. Upon cue, the Attacker scans room, finds partner, and attacks with 360. Partner defends, counters and finishes. Both return to run.

DRILL:
Same as above, but with knives and sticks scattered on the floor. Upon cue, Attacker grabs knife or stick and attacks partner. Defend and reset into run.
2 Opponents Knife & Stick
DRILL-FINAL:
Groups of 3, one Defender, one with knife, one with stick. On “RUN!” all jog around room. On “ATTACK!” knife and stick find Defender. After defense, change Defender and reset.
Beginner (A2)

Inside defenses
Drill: Group of 3 with 1 tombstone pad. Pad holder moves 1 step in fighting stance in any direction & calls a straight punch combo. Striker moves back into range and delivers combo. When 3rd person randomly yells "Threat!" pad holder backs away, & striker turns to face 3rd person. 3rd person throws an advancing straight punch at striker which should be defended w/ an inside defense. After defending, striker & pad holder resume movement & combos
Intermediate (A2)
Review round kicks
Defense vs. high round kicks (reflexive, 2 points of contact, 3 points of contact, & covering)
Bearhug behind arms free
Drill: defender starts with eyes closed, attacker bearhugs defender from behind (arms free). Defender goes through defense & disengages after combatives. Attacker throws 1 high round kick immediately after being disengaged for defender to defend. Then reset.
Advanced (A2)
Scissor Front Kick

Knife- defense vs. backslash
Drill: Attacker "hides" knife in their waist band. Attacker holds kick shield for either scissor front or scissor round kick. After defender delivers kick, attacker staggers back, drops pad and draws knife to attack with a backslash. After defender completes defense, reset.
