Intermediate Class (C1)

Focus Mitts: Opposite Stance- Hooks and uppercuts

Drill: groups of 3; make the appropriate hook or uppercut while third person holds up a hand; striker must call out the hand motion.

Ground- Headlock from side Forward

Ground- Headlock from side Backward

Drill: defend either headlock from ground, get up and attack the pad with non-stop strikes until pad holder calls time. Reset!

Advanced (C1)

Focus Mitts-Opposite Stance- 3 Rounds of 2 minutes- non-stop combinations (Zero Down Time bet. Combos), 30 seconds rest bet. Rounds.

Knife on the Ground – full mount, downward stab

Gun on the Ground – full mount, trap and roll

Drill: eyes closed, open on command, react to gun or knife

BEGINNER (A1)

Punches (Left/Right Combination)

DRILL: 3 Position Punches

Groups of 2, Striker, Padholder. Striker sends all out Straight Punches, transitioning to either standing, kneeling, or mounted on Padholder, based on instructor’s cue.

Front Kick Groin

DRILL:

Groups of 2, A/B. Both begin at one end of gym, one striking, one pad holding. Striker sends Front Groin Kick + Straight Punch Burst. On instructor’s “GO!” Striker runs to opposite end of the gym and back taking the pad. New Striker sends FGK + St Punch burst until next “GO!” cue.

Choke Front 2-Hand Pluck

Groups of 4, Striker, Padholder, Attacker, Defender. Striker, Padholder and Attacker begin at one end of gym, Defender neutral/eyes closed at opposite end. Striker begins sending either all out Straight Punches or Front Groin Kicks depending on Padholder’s cue. Attacker runs down to attack Defender with Front Choke. After defense, all roles switch. Attacker becomes Defender. Defender runs down to become Striker. Striker takes Pad. Padholder runs down to attack. Repeat for time.

DRILL:

Groups of 2, Striker, Padholder. Padholder cues for Bas Combos 1-4. Striker adds opposite leg Round Kick for Padholder to defend.

Ground - Kick off from Guard

DRILL:

Groups of 2, Attacker, Defender. Defender begins on back. Attacker dives into Guard and pins chest to chest. Defender must create space and Kick Off. Once to feet, Defender runs to opposite end of room and back to attack partner who has set up on back.

Ground - Choke Side

DRILL - FINAL:
Same as above, but Attacker can choose to dive into Guard for Kick Off or Choke Side.

ADVANCED (C1)

DRILL - WARMUP:

Strikers scattered neutral/eyes closed. Padholders give verbal cue, holding pad for either Advancing Straight Punch or Advancing Front Groin Kick. Regardless of original striker, finish with Straight Punch Burst, reseting on Padholder’s cue.

Gun Front

DRILL:

Groups of 3, Defender, Padholder, Attacker. Same drill as above, however during Straight Punch Burst, Attacker points gun for defense.

Advanced Gun Front - Assailant using off hand

DRILL - FINAL:

Defenders scattered, neutral/eyes closed. Attackers roam, providing tactile cue by grabbing and pointing gun. Defend and reset.

Katie is a 1st degree Black Belt in Krav Maga and the Program Manager of Krav Maga at Combat Sports Academy (CSA) in Dublin, CA. She held a spot on the 2009 U.S. National Muaythai team that competed at IFMA, the Muaythai World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. Katie also held the U.S. National Title with the MTAA at 135 pounds. She eventually decided she loved teaching regular people how to protect themselves and their families more than she loved fighting, and went on to focus on her Krav Maga career. As a member of the Krav Maga Alliance Training Team, Katie holds "train the trainer" status and is a certified KMA Force Instructor.

Beginner (A1)
Movement – shadow boxing w/o punches or kicks
Palm heel strikes
Front kick (groin)
Choke from the front (2-handed pluck)
Drill: Students break into groups of three, with one tombstone per group. Once the defender deals with a choke from the front, they turn and find their padholder who calls for palm heels or groin kicks. After a few strikes the choker calls time and chokes, while the padholder moves to a new spot as quickly as possible.

Intermediate (C1)
Ground – high back fall break
Ground – forward roll
Ground – forward roll, back fall break
Ground – headlock side (weight forward)
Ground – headlock side (weight backward)
Drill – Students break into groups of three, with one tombstone per group. Once the attacker begins a side headlock, the padholder starts counting. Once the defender gets up, they deliver upper body strikes to the tombstone for the same length of time the padholder counted. Repeat.

Advanced (C1)

Thai Pads form opposite stance- 2-3 minute rounds, double up on the last technique of each combination (Focusing on Power)
Advanced Gun- from the front assailant pushing, slapping, kicking
Advanced Gun- from the front assailant using off hand
Drill: Groups of 3-4, non-stop Gun threats; 2 rounds- first round 50% speed and power, second round- Fast, Strong and aggressive!!

DRILL: Pad Line

Groups of 2, Striker, Padholder. Padholders line up, Strikers in front of pad. Strikers send one Front Kick Vertical Target to pad, then shuffle to the next pad to their right. Repeating Kick/Shuffle for time.

Knees w/ Clinch

DRILL:

Groups of 2, Striker, Padholder. Striker tracks Padholder. Padholder cues for Front Kick Vertical Target + Clinch/Knee Burst. After strikes, Striker runs to designated “exit” and returns to tracking Pad.

360 Defenses

DRILL - FINAL: Roaming Attackers

Defenders scatter around room, neutral, eyes closed. Attackers roam with pad, giving verbal cue, then either swinging pad for 360 Defense + Clinch/Knee Burst or holding pad for Front Kick Vertical Target + Clinch/Knee Burst. Striker resets.

Hook Punch

DRILL:
Groups of 2, Striker, Padholder. On Padholder’s cue, Striker sends Hook Punch + Hammerfirst BURST. Resetting on Padholder’s cue.

Bearhug Front Arms Free (Neck Leverage)

Same as above, but Padholder can cue for combo OR rush forward applying Bearhug

Ground - Headlock Side - Backward

DRILL - FINAL: Flow

Groups of 2, A/B. (A) attacks (B) with Bearhug for Neck Leverage defense. (B) then attacks (A) on the ground with Side Headlock. Once to feet, (A) runs to attack another (B). Continue for time. Repeat for another round switching starting roles of A/Bs.

Knife - Defense vs. Downward Stab

DRILL:

Groups of 3, Defender, Padholder, Attacker. Defender sends all out strikes to Pad. Attacker approaches from either side of Pad with Downward Stab. Defend and return to striking.

Knife - Defense vs. Forward Slash

DRILL - FINAL: Duck, Duck, Krav

Defenders neutral, eyes closed, knives scattered around room. Attackers choose any Defender using One Arm Shoulder Throw to throw to the ground. Attacker immediately runs to find a knife and attack. Defender recovers from throw and awaits to defend attack. Defender resets after defense.

Drill: Cauldron. 1 striker, 1 tombstone pad holder. Pad holder calls for “punches,” “kicks,” or “sprawl”. Round 1: striker performs 1 left/right combo for punches. 1 groin kick for kicks, and 1 sprawl with a knee strike on sprawls. Round 2: everything doubles. Round 3: everything triples.
360 Defense
Drill: A/B drill. Half the class is group A, others are group B. Group A stands in passive stance with eyes shut. Group B randomly attacks with outside looping punches. Safety note: Attackers must verbally get defender’s attention BEFORE swinging at defender (i.e. defender should have time to open their eyes and recognize attack)

Intermediate (C1)

Drill: A/B drill. Half the class is group A, others are group B. Group A stands in fighting stance with eyes shut. Group B randomly attacks with groin kicks. Safety note: Attackers must verbally get defender’s attention BEFORE kicking at defender (i.e. defender should have time to open their eyes and recognize attack). Halfway through round instructor yells, “DOWN!” All defenders lay down and attackers either attack them from guard or choke them from the side.

Advanced (C1)

A/B drill. Half the class is group A, others are group B. Group A stands in neutral stance with eyes shut. Group B randomly attacks with either a gun or with empty hands. Attackers get defender’s attention by physically “harassing” them with light palm heel strikes to the shoulders and taps to the forehead. Defender must recognize attack and either opt for a one arm shoulder throw, 2 handed gun defense, machine gun takedown (dead side defense for assailant using off hand), or live side defense for assailant using off hand.
