Drill: Groups of 3; defender; Strikes from the mount, 2nd person safely tackles defender off the pad and mounts them, defender;  escapes the mount and gets up, 3rd person, then immediately makes Reverse Headlock. Repeat.

Round 3: Puke round! As hard and fast as possible, 30 seconds L/R palm heel strikes; 30 seconds 2 palm heel strikes and a push-up; 30 seconds 2 right round kicks and 2 left round kicks; 30 seconds round kick to sprawl

Intermediate (A2)

Defensive Front Kick

Drill: Focus mitt and belly pad

Drill: Basic combinations

Drill: Sprint to Safety: Count off STRIKERS into 3 groups. Designate walls or landmarks as "Safety Landmark 1", "Safety Landmark 2" and "Safety Landmark 3". Strikers are throwing basic combinations on focus mitts. When instructor calls "STOP" Striker and Mitt holder pause. Then instructor calls "KICK!" and Striker makes Defensive Front Kick to belly pad to make space and sprints to their designated landmark. Mitt holder tries to give chase and tag them on the back with focus mitts. If students are not sprinting hard enough, add a 3 burpee penalty for being caught or not catching their partner.

Inside Defense v. Left/Right

Inside Defense v. Left/Right (lean back and trap)

Ground – Foot Grab Strip

Drill: A attacks B with Left/Right combination. B can defend with two inside defenses or Lean Back and Trap. Whenever A calls  "DOWN!" B back fall breaks (if they know how) or gets on back in ground position safely. A grabs B's foot and B perform Foot Grab Strip.

Drill: Combative Stations: Curved KS holders line up across from Strikers. KS holder always hold for the same combative while Strikers change stations. 30 seconds at each station. On instructor's call of "ROTATE!" everyone shifts right. Station 1: Spinning Outside Slap Kick. Station 2: 2 Jumping Front Kicks. Station 3: Jumping Side Kick. Station 4: Round kick to a sprawl. Station 5: 2 punches and a push-up.

Advanced gun – from kneeling position

BEGINNER CLASS (A2)
Fighting Stance and movement (front, back, left, and right)
Follow the leader – Round 1 partner A moves forward, rearward, or to the side; partner B follows, keeping orientation and distance constant. Instructor calls “switch.”
Punches – left/right combination
Follow the leader – round 2: same as before, but partner A has focus mitts and holds for left/right combo. Round 3: now the instructor can call “sprawl” or “go.” On “go,” both partners run across the room to the furthest wall from their current position, do 3 burpees, then find their partner and resume the drill.
Inside Defenses

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A2)
Focus mitt combinations (3×1.5 min rounds), 30 second “rest” between rounds AMRAP burpees

Defense v. Standing Reverse headlock
Drill: 3 people. 1 focus mitt holder, 1 striker, 1 attacker. Striker throws combinations at focus mitts (called by focus mitt holder), mixing in inside/outside slap kicks. Attacker verbalizes “Threat!” placing a hand on the striker’s shoulder and signaling them to bend forward at the waist to allow the attack to come on. Defender immediately performs defense technique and then continues with focus mitt combinations.

ADVANCED CLASS (A2)
Warm up – jogging with periodic rolls (forward and backwards), fall breaks, and takedown shoots. Compete to see who has the highest dive roll over tombstone pads
Scissor round kick
Jumping round kick
Review beginner and intermediate self defense (chokes, bear hugs, headlocks, etc.) with light resistance
Sweeps with forward kick and heel kick
Continue beginner and intermediate self defense but under heavier resistance and defender must end with sweep or takedown

Round Kick - practice angles chopping down to the leg and up to the ribs
Combo: Right Round Kick/Right Cross (to emphasize recoil of the kick

Drill: practice Defensive Front Kick with the defender starting on their knees or on their stomachs; they must get up in time to make the kick against an advancing attacker with a pad

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A2)

Thai Pads: Combos 6 and 7 with round kicks

Defense v. High Round Kicks (2 or 3 points of contact)

Drill: defend high round kick, add 2 counterattacks

Bearhug Behind, Arms Free

Drill: groups of three; one person makes high round kicks; second person defends; third person makes bearhug from behind, arms free, against kicker at any time.

 

ADVANCED CLASS (A2)

Thai Pads: Left Kick/Right/Left Hook OR Right Kick/Left Hook/Right

Thai Pads: Right/Left Hook/Right Kick OR Left Hook/Right/Left Kick

Knife - Kick v. Downward or Upward Stab, left- or right-handed attacker

Drill: kick v. knife, then pick up a shield (pad) to block and counter

Knife - Upward Stab v. Left or Right Handed Attacker

Drill: eyes closed, attacker gives verbal signal; kick or use hand defenses v. upward stab, left or right handed attacker

Beginner (A2)

Movement-Fighting Stance Moving Forward, Left, Right, Back

Punches-Left/Right combination

Round Kick

Drill: Teamwork Makes the Dream Work! 1 minute: Partner A throws 2 punches on pad, does 1 push-up then takes the pad from B. B throws 2 punches and a push-up. A throws 4 punches and 1 push-up, they switch, then 6 punches and 1 push-up, etc. with partners attempting to make as many punches as possible in 1 minute. The partner group that has accumulated the most punches wins. Everyone else does 5 burpees.

Drill: Same as above, but with 1:30 on the clock, replacing punches with 2 round kicks left and 2 round kicks right and 1 sprawl. Number of kicks always increases by 2 each leg.

Choke from the Front with a Push

Drill:

Drill: Diving for the pads: Curved kick shield is centered on the mat with partners facing each other on opposite ends of the room. On instructor's call of "GO!" whoever touches the pad first gets to be holder and holds for non-stop punches until instructor calls "TIME!" OR drops pad and applies Choke from the Front with a Push. Rotate one line to allow for different match-ups, change distance from pad, and/or have them begin prone, or make them bearcrawl to pad, etc.

Intermediate (A2)

Drill: 5 for 5: A can attack B with Left/Right combination OR High Round Kick. B defends and counters with 3-4 combatives. Partners switch roles every 5 attacks.

Drill: Karate Kid Competition: Stack 2-3 curved kick shields at the center of the room. Have students attempt a Jumping Side Kick over the pads without knocking any over. Every student who successfully clears the stack has to try with another pad added to increase the height. Winner clears the most pads. If most of the students have trouble at the early on, you can change/add the competition to distance and have students attempt to Jumping Side Kick over pads lined up next to each other.

Knife – defense v. upward stab

Advanced Gun – from front, assailant using off hand

Drill: A/B Drill including Knife – defense v. upward stab and Advanced Gun – from front, assailant using off hand.

BEGINNER CLASS (A2)

Ground – Side Kick
Drill: Zombie drill. 1 kick shield holder, 1 striker. Striker starts in side position on the ground in front of pad holder. Striker’s 1st side kick to pad holder starts the drill. Striker’s goal is to create enough space to execute a technical standup into fighting position and move away. Pad holder continuously move forward towards striker. Note: pad holders should adjust the level of difficulty to help train their partner for success. Every pad holder should start as a slow zombie and build up to fast zombies as their striker has success in creating enough space to stand up.

INTERMEDIATE CLASS (A2)
Focus Mitts: Combos 1-4 for 2 minutes
Focus Mitts: Combos 6-9 for 2 minutes
Review Choke from Front with Push
Bearhug Behind, Arms Caught
Drill: eyes closed, either Choke Front Push or Bearhug Behind, Arms Caught
