ADVANCED (A1)
Axe Kick
COMBO: 4 Straight Punches + Front Groin Kick + Axe Kick (Same Leg), switch fighting stance, repeat.
Jumping Front Kick
DRILL: Pad Line. Pad holders line up in a line. Strikers perform a single kick to pad, then shuffle to next pad.
Headlock Side – Spinning Inward
DRILL: Roaming Attackers can apply either Headlock Side Regular OR Spinning Inward. Defender responds accordingly.

BEGINNER CLASS (A1)

Drill: move around the room, pad holder calls out for Left/Right or Groin Kick

Flow Drill: attacker (wearing Focus Mitts) makes Bearhug Front Arms Caught; defender defends; attacker breaks away and calls out several combinations; then attacker makes Bearhug Front Arms Free; defender defends and finishes.

Thai Pads: Combo 2k/Right/Left Kick

Beginner (A1)

Drill: AMRAP! 30 seconds max Straight Punches, 10 second rest, 30 seconds max FKG, 10 second rest, and 30 seconds of max Knees.

Choke from the Front, 2-handed

Drill: Round Robin, Groups of 3: A is Padholder and lines up on one end of the mat. C at other end with eyes closed. B is in between. B runs to A and makes 10 straight punches and 10 Front Kicks to the Groin. B then takes the pad. A runs to C and applies Choke from the Front. C defends and sprints to pad. Cycle through for 3 minutes.

Intermediate (A1)

Gloves and shin guards

Defense v. Low Round Kick (shin block)

Defense v. Front Kick (redirect)

Round 1: Holding gloves like focus mitts, A holds for B, basic combinations 1-4.

Round 2: In between combinations, A can attack B with low round kick. B defends with shin block.

Round 3: In between combinations, A can attack B with Front Kick. B defends with redirect.

Bearhug from the Front, Arms Free (space)

Drill: Same as Round 3, but now A can also attack B with Bearhug from the Front, Arms Free (space) at any time between calling combinations.

Advanced (A1)

Round 1: Free work, punch combinations, include variations with kicks, knees, and elbows

Round 2: Add sprawls to a knee

Beginner (B3)
Round 1: Target recognition: 2 hand combatives or 2 knees. Alternate type of hand combative, i.e.hammerfist to elbow. Switch.
Round 2: Find your partner drill. After the push up, striker must find pad holder and throw non-stop hand combatives until instructor calls time. Switch.
Round 3: Ground, Pound, and Drag drill with belts. Striker on pad for G&P until instructor yells sprint. Striker sprints with belt resistance to opposite side of the mat and back.
Inside Defenses
Inside Defense vs. Straight Punch Low
Drill: Diving for the Pads: Have partners line up facing each other at the center of the mat with the curved kick shield between them. Partners should be equidistant from the pad, with elbows on knees. On instructor's call of "GO!" students attempt to touch pad first. Whoever can get it first can either hold for 20 straight punches or drop pad and make a Straight Punch or Straight Punch Low. Defender makes punches or defense with follow up combatives. Play with variations of distance (3 steps away, at opposite ends of the mat) and how they must get there (begin on stomach facing away from knife, bear crawl, army crawl, etc.). Rotate one line at regular intervals to allow for different match-ups.

Intermediate (D3)
Thai Pads
Round 1: 1K-10K
Round 2: 1K-10K. If combo ends with a rear kick, finish with a lead hook/cross. If combo ends with a lead kick, finish with a cross/lead hook.
Round 3: Round 2 + add an additional opposite kick, i.e. 1K = jab/rear kick/lead hook/cross/lead kick. 2K = jab/cross/lead kick/cross/lead hook/rear kick.

Drill: A/B Drill. A's line up facing wall. Attackers can apply Choke from Behind Against a Wall or Choke from Behind with a Pull

Advanced (D3)
4:00 round; 15 second intervals; Partners switching pad every 15 seconds
Round 1: Straight punches, FGK, Hammerfists, Jump Spinning Back Kick
Round 2: G&P to kick shield, other person doing plyometric—alternate between burpees and jumping knee tucks
Round 3: All hand combatives, FKVT, all hand combatives, Round kick

Knees Drill: Groups of 2; Striker; Palm Heel Strikes (from mount) on pad holders signal “UP!” strikers quickly stands up and works Knees on pad; on pad holders signal “Down!”, striker mounts and continues with Palm Heel Strikes.

Drill: Monkey in the middle drill- non-stop strikes and self-defense. Make it intense.

Drill: Monkey in the middle drill + Push ups: non-stop Gun attacks and Strikes. On instructors signal down, defender drops down and does 5 Push ups while others are SAFELY bumping him/her with pads and yelling.

Beginner (B3)
Left/Right Combination Round Kick Knees Drill: Pyramid 30 seconds Left/Right combo 10 second Rest 45 seconds Round Kick 10 seconds Rest 60 seconds Non-stop Knee strikes 10 sec-Rest 90 seconds Target recognition: 2 punches, Round Kick, or Knee Ground – Side Position Ground – Side Kick Ground – Getting Up (from side position) Drill: A is at one end of mat and performs 20 Ground Pound strikes to kick shield, sprints to other side of mat where B is waiting and is performing tactical get up from side position and back down again. If B is on ground when A reaches them, perform side kick and get up. If they are standing, make 10 punches. 2 minutes and switch. Intermediate (D3) Back Kick

Drill 1: Secondary Attacker. A has thai pads. B is Striker. C has curved kick shield. A calling basic combinations for B. At any time, C can make verbal cue from behind. B makes Back Kick, followed up by 6 hand combatives.

Drill 2: Attacker Stack: Same as above, but after making Back Kick, B attempts to stack attackers during follow-up hand combatives using movement and footwork.

Hair Grab from Behind

Bearhug from Behind, Leverage on the Finger

Final Drill: Same as Drill 2, except C can apply Hair Grab from Behind or Bearhug from Behind, Leverage on the Finger OR make verbal cue for Back Kick and Attacker Stack.

Advanced (D3)

Thai Pad Cauldron

Round 1: pad holder calls combo, striker performs the combo 1x.

Round 2: pad holder calls combo, striker performs the combo 2x, sprawling in between combos.
Round 3: pad holder calls combo, striker performs combo 3x, sprawling in between combos.

Drill: Bull in the Ring: Groups of 4-5. One defender, everyone else is an attacker. All self defense techniques levels 1-3 + Long Gun from the Front – live side and Long Gun from the Front – dead side

Front Kick – practice from passive stance, followed by straight punches
Round Kick
Round Kick – focus on various angles: downward, horizontal, upward
Drill: Horseshoe Drill (Horseshoe Kicking Drill)
Wrist Releases – discuss aggressive v. soft responses based on situation and stimulus
Arm Pull — burst forward with counterattacks
Drill: Aggressive or Soft — the defender has eyes closed; the attacker grabs the wrist, sometimes pulling aggressively; the defender react according to the aggressiveness of the grab with either a wrist release OR bursting forward with counterattacks.
INTERMEDIATE (D3)

Drill: pushed from side, give hammer fist followed by straight punches; resent with eyes closed

Gun – behind at a distance (live side & dead side)
Drill: Group of 3-4. 1 thai pad holder, 1 striker, 1-2 gunmen. Striker & pad holder free work both combinations from above. Gunmen verbally get striker’s attention from some reasonable distance behind. Striker performs appropriate defense, then returns immediately to pad work. Safety Note: Striker must hit barehanded in order to be able to perform defenses, encourage strikers to use palm heel strikes rather than punches on thai pads and/or encourage thai pad holders to lighten up on the amount of back pressure they give strikers.
