Palm Strikes


Ground – Back Position

Ground – Front Kick

Ground – Get Up

Drill: on ground, kick, get up, and strike until the pad holder says to go back to the ground

Choke Front 1 Hand


Defensive Front Kick

Side Kick (include additional counterattacks)

Drill: eyes closed; Defensive Front Kick or Side Kick from either side, then make additional counters until the pad holder calls “time.”

Reflexive Defense v. Front Kick

Forward Roll

Drill: as above but include a front kick to the groin so that the defender must make Reflexive Defense v. Front Kick; ALSO sometimes add a light push from behind so that the defender must make a forward roll



Sparring Drills – 4 rounds of 90 seconds each

Knife v. Knife – Downward Stab, Dead Side

Knife v. Knife – Downward Stab, Live Side

Knife Defense v. Downward Stab

Drill: groups of 3; defender makes non-stop strikes to pad; third person holds a knife and waits; there is a knife on the ground nearby; on command, the defender stops striking and grabs the knife from the ground and must use the knife to defend against the second attacker; the defender should defend several times, then go back to striking the pad

Drill: as above, but sometimes the attacker does not give the defender enough time to grab the knife; the defender must make an empty hand defense
